PLEXREADER: Comics, Books, PDFs

As a developer - not only do we use plex for all our Training Videos but having the ability to have all the developer ebooks there too would be perfect - It is a no brainer - Also some videos have a manual or book associated with that movie - so to me by you have to support ebooks - Would be like a record with out the jacket - Since some media like training material do require a workbook or manual that can help support that media.
That said -I been using this platform from the start and nothing compares . So keep up the good work! Ebooks are a +10000 vote for me right now

This feature would be so cool and useful. As some have said, not only for standalone ebooks, but also for documents related to movies, tv shows, music…

It’s a pitty that no one in the staff is paying attention to this.

Would absolutely love to be able to add books/comics/manga/pdfs to Plex!

I have confirmation that this is being looked into

That is good to hear as Plex is being left behind with regards to ebook support.

Recently Jellyfin has added ebook metadata/organization support with viewing planned in the future (like Emby). Hopefully Plex is on that path as well.

i can get on board as long as the video server side doesn’t suffer. i like plex even with that BUTT UGLY EXTREMELY UNIMAGINATIVE tv view. to be blunt uni or uno or whatever the BLEEP it;s called needs to be called OH NO. the best features of plex vs. emby are no changing folder structure to suite the program. i’d like to know which idiot over at emby thought it was a good idea to force peeps to change their folder structure to suite emby instead of emby excepting the folder structure one has JUST like every other program does. secondly plex’s non-intrusive setup. with emby one feels they’re going to ask for a body part donation at any time. so go ahead and implement the new features but know if the tv server side suffers more missteps like the OH NO interface it will cost plex dearly in user base, oops i meant even more dearly.

+1 for this feature.

For the time being, I use Ubooquity.

What users want:

  • Comic Book Readers
  • E-Book Readers
  • Audiobooks Players
  • An actual response on an official forum from Plex staff addressing why they aren’t supporting these needs or services.

What Plex delivers:

  • Movies that have paid advertisements that integrate themselves into your library in an attempt to trick your users into playing them for ad revenue.
  • A subscription music service (not your choice between popular ones)… just one. If you already subscribe to a different one, don’t worry they’ve pulled add-on support to try to stop you from using it so you might unsubscribe and join their preferred vendor that likely gives them kickbacks from subscriptions generated through their platform.
  • No customer interaction on their official forums to address why their needs aren’t being met.

Plex, we get that you are trying to run a business. That often requires profit driven decisions. But many of us (myself included) pay monthly membership fees or have bought lifetime passes in an attempt to support your product. Lately that support has only been one-way. We, as a community, would love it if you got back to creating services we actually want.

We want you to stay relevant, we want you to be successful. Kodi, Jellyfin, Emby and countless others are starting to encroach and pass you, simply because they listen to their customers/ users. Please don’t fail due to your hubris.

I could never get Ubooquity to work on my NAS. Ended up using Cover from the Microsoft store, and only being able to access from my LAN. I wish Plex would get it together.

Wow this exists already 7 years next month.
Hope ebooks will come soon. I love Plex

I’m using something called fezly.co that seems to work pretty well for most of my ebooks.

Has anyone tried Calibre E-book management?

I love this idea, becasue I love Plex, and I have a lot of ebooks and often want a way to centrally organize it. (Humble Bundle, Project Gutenberg have a lot of content). I’ve uploaded many books to Google Play Books (you can upload and access similar to the way you can upload music), I’ve used Kindle, I’ve use Kobo - which has Pocket support, which is one of the coolest features/services! Overdrive is also a nice service (for borrowing books). I guess it would just be nice to have the ā€œlibraryā€ all in one place, but it’s a big effort to branch Plex out in that direction. And there is plenty of competition now.

I think my favourite use case is not just the centralized management, but the ā€œresume readingā€ feature- so I can start, and then resume on another device.

I found this tutorial: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/personal-cloud-ebook-library/ this is a bit of hacked together solution - it’s cool, but imagine Books on Plex! You could share your books with friends! (the other awesome use case)

i’ve changed my opinion on this. after some consideration i do like the idea. but i’d like to see the following formats supported:

all epub formats
all microsoft word formats
pdf
all libre writter formats
all open office writer formats

I believe that almost everyone that landed on the idea of plex having this feature has gone through many options. For me I have tried Calibre, Ubooquity, BookBrowser and some other solutions. The problem with some of them is the UI and for others are features.

In any case having all my libraries in one place and managed by a single application saves me a lot of time. Quite frankly plex has been a blessing for me since I paid for the lifetime membership and I would love to remove all other apps(if possible) and use only plex to consume content. Thus supporting Ebooks/Comics/Mangas seems like a step in right direction to me.

There is also the business proposition. As the time I spend per day in Plex increases so does the possibility of me paying up for the plex pass or tidal or any other paid content that plex provides me. The state of online media streaming is quite sorry as of now with my money going to at least 4 places every month just to find out that there is a show I would like to see but it belongs to some service that is not available for my country and/or it is yet another service to be paid for makes me feel even strongly that plex should handle more responsibility

Calibre is a decent ebook manager/organizer. However, as a remote reader it leaves a lot to be desired. And while it does support PDF files, it actually has rendering issues with a lot of PDFs that contain more complicated formatting.

I cannot believe that after years of requests from users and tons of support from the community, there hasn’t been one recent & clear reach-out to the community about this feature-request… damn, plex, that’s just silly !

I most definitely understand where everyone’s coming from, we all have our media-libraries in one place, organized and well, except for our e-books. It’s kind of a downer that despite customers literally begging for this feature ( which they would most obviously use-to-death), there’s no news at the time regarding actual implementation or as to why it isn’t considered…

FIXED IT:

I wish there was a place I could post this… It was rejected as a post. and every location I try to find matching information it becomes hidden without cause.
