It’s disappointing that this request has been up since 2013. Any update at all on this? Adding a book and sheet music library with epub or pdf would be HUGE for me.

Yes you’re right. Of course I’m exaggerating the point.
But actually I need this, and I have to go with Calibre, Calibre web and all those painful softwares. (Those softs even have some PlexLike themes 
)
Plex is good in formatting libraries. I would prefer have a book library than some others advanced features.
Movies, TV Shows, Photos, Music. Last thing is digital books.
Big feature for Plex, which can reach a new audience, for a quite reasonable effort.

this is a brilliant idea, and really is the last bastion of media that I can’t add to my server at the moment. I can make a secondary audio library for audio books on top of music or other audio, all I need is to be able to access my written media elsewhere.
If plex implemented drm-free epub/pdf/cz/etcetcetc support as well as other document formats (read-only) like .doc, .txt it would add a whole new dimension to the platform.
Educators could create plex servers to upload audio/video of classes or lectures etc, along with a document library for supporting media or transcripts. Families could share prose of whatever sort they like via the internet (your kid’s short stories, a copy of someone’s diploma - hell you could keep a copy of your rental contract and your last will and testament if you wanted to), upload pdfs of you wedding guestbook or photobooks of events to enjoy with your family.
…aaaand on top of all that, everyone would be able to keep their run-of-the-mill ebooks and ecomics in the same place as all their other media.
Even a basic ''if you’re in portrait it shows 1 page per screen, if you’re in landscape it shows 2, or 1 scrollable if you choose in playback settings" would get the ball rolling. wacky transitions others have mentioned could be addressed at a later date.

I would love to get my books & comics managed/viewable via Plex.
I would like to be able to download the books hosted on Plex directly from my kindle experimental browser.
A nice addition would be to be able to import or read a calibre library from Plex

Yes there are alternatives, but none contain all the necessary features, which Plex could do. And also, centralizing all the content in one platform is an idea that really appeals to me.
As many others have already said, this is an untapped market and a chance for Plex to get new customers…and also satisfy their active customers, many of which have requested this.

There is a lack of apps that do this as well as plex could. plus all media in one place is bonus. Please listen to us.
To be honest why, people who dont need or want that feature can easly deactivate it. I hope someday there will be Ebook support in plex

I’d like to see some greater engagement from staff regarding how amenable they are to implementing ebook support as requested.
Their silence speaks volumes and does the brand’s equity no favors…

I’m really disapointed about the way you don’t care about your paid subscribers.
I bought the full lifetime pass (and i enjoyed it) and i’m really not the only only one on this topic.
I hoped that we could at least expect an answer (whatever it is positive or negative) after 6 years!!!
We don’t expect a positive answer, we just want an answer, once!
Still waiting for ebooks support in plex. Nowadays device sync for reading is present in many apps around, but having one place for all content would just be sooo good.

I’ve heard that the devs will implement this when their new office on planet x is finished.
They could also implement a book store where the users can buy books/comics with drm. It would be great for them too.
