PLEXREADER: Comics, Books, PDFs

the could make 10 times more money with a ebook

I agree that is probably one of the most niche additions they ever could have made, but I have to wonder though if Parsec had a big hand in making that one happen. They have basic code examples and library files for every platform.

It would be really interesting to know how many uber nerds out there are maintaining a subscription for that system. Nostalgic arcade games are the kind of thing you try for a couple days and then forget about it for six months or a year. I can’t imagine there are many keeping the subscription active for very long.

please please please add ebooks, as many formats as possible, as well as support for audio books.

Me too!!! I would love to have ebooks, digital comic books, and audiobooks on Plex!!!

And also me too, I would be willing to pay for the add on or integrated feature.

I use Kavita currently for my reader purposes but the less crap installed on my server, the better.

Support.

I have the feeling the entire Plex community wants this to happen

+1 yes !!

I think that would make so much sense to add books/comic book into plex !!
Using ubooquity now; it would be so much sexier to have a book library integrated into plex !

In about 13 months this post is going to turn 10 years old :sob:

We should think more economically. Ask not what Plex should do for you, but what Plex wants us to do.

I don’t feel that this forum and voting feature has the goal of a good customer relationship.

Plex is handling most of my media files nowadays, and it breaks the user experience if I need to use calibre etc. for my ebooks, pdfs & cbrs. having an access restricted user base for the same is also made complicated, requiring multiple apps. Given that ebooks would be a library type, users not interested in using plex as a ebook reader can simply not create such libraries. (thus, not hampering user experience in any way)

Also given the plethora of free content plex provides, it can be greatly increased as many books are available for free.

Also, from a developmental standpoint pdf, cbr, etc are very popular much used formats, and are not resource intensive to implement, as they are well supported in every platform.

The main reason for wanting to integrate books is the fact that plex offers an incredible UI/UX experience to the end user, especially in the context of large no of files in a library. It makes a users collection easily & intuitively accessible, making it a joy to use to enjoy & explore ones library.

also as another user pointed out, this would make plex the ultimate central location for all media consumption!! now that’s something to brag about.

I think this would be an awesome addition to Plex. I’ve been doing research on comic book servers and such and a lot of them mention that their interface is very ā€œPlex-likeā€ meaning user-friendly and elegant. So why not let Plex serve up the best?
Then only problems I see are the availability of metadata resources and the many formats that comics and books are available in.
For instance, The TVDB has served TV shows well as a source for posters, episode data, etc. but there is no such standard, comprehensive site for comics. That feature would have to left out for now.
As for file formats, perhaps Plex could start with CBR, CBZ, and PDF files and explore more from there. Those would provide an ample selection of comics/books to start.
What about some sort of plugin or integration with Calibre? The spirit of the 2 products is similar and collaboration would be amazing.
Like many things in Plex, comic and ebook reading would start small and slow and features would grow as bugs were worked out and user needs built in.
I see it a a natural expansion for Plex. After all, comics and books are entertainment too and are enjoyed on phones, tablets, desktops, and TVs. It’s got my vote to be integrated at some point in the future.

They would also have to have epub - that’s one of the most popular for ebooks
