@Tyestor I just installed Kavita since someone over on Reddit said the developer was trying to make it the “Plex” of readable content and my Ubooquity server was giving me a lot of issues lately.
I do have to say it’s smooth and works well with everything I’ve thrown at it.

thanks for the link, I’ve been using Komga but it can be such a hasstle at times, gonna try out Kavita.

I am also all for this being able to add Ebooks to plex would be amazing to have access to in the one app.
A basic audio reader would be good to if your on the go as well as i like to run books threw my car for long trips.
I’m all for the addition of an audio and ebook reader.
Plex can’t claim to be an all in one media solution without this.
Most I can give them is a 3 star review, would be 5 but they loose 1 for not having this, and another for ignoring a 10 year old request with this much support.
I would add, if they can’t figure this out, bring back add-ons and let others do it.

I know this is a dream for many of us. For PLEX to have a library feature for books.
Below are my wishlist for this addition. I hope it will happen someday soon.
Library Types
- Books
- Comics
- Manga
Formats
Supported formats: PDF, JPG Folders, CBZ, CBR, RAR, .epub, .DOC, .DOCX, …etc.
Reading Metadata
- Ability to collect metadata from different book databases:
- For general books, could be from goodreads.com
- For comic, I’m not sure what’s best
- For manga, could be from myanimelist.net
Viewing Features
- Ability to view by series, collection, and chapter
- Ability to sort by number of pages, release date, date added, genre, collection, writer/artist, country, publisher, year, decade, content rating.
- Ability to bookmark, resume reading from dock
- Ability to mark read/unread
- Ability to create collections, and link it to TV/Movies collections. Imagine having a ‘Marvel’ collection which includes all movies, TV Series, comics, and guidebooks in one place.
- Ability to create path: where you can link multiple title in one path, for example in comics, you have Civil War event which consists of chapters from multiple title, it would be awesome if you can add all the titles in one path and then easily drag the title to create chronological order.
- Ability to use the first page of PDF, CBZ, folder, …etc. as cover for the comic.
- Ability to change cover artwork
- Suggestions based on related titles and author from home page
Naming your folders
In order for Plex to recognize the folders and create a unify naming strategy
Rules:
- Separate comics from books
- Keep your series separated, even if it belongs to same character
- Keep chapters and volumes inside the series folder
- Here I have a challenge, so let’s take Thor - God of Thunder (2015) as an example, some will download this as issues and some will download the TBP volumes. Do we have a mechanism to differentiate between Volumes and Chapters? Or this will not be necessarily, since the metadata collected will be for series only and not for the inside volumes and chapters.. does this make sense?
- Stand alone comics, is this treated differently, or you only enter the comic and then select Volume 000 and start reading?
- If a character is having many runs over many years, keep character name as Collection, and link all character series to the collection.
- Comic Events are not considered series and should be treated as collection.
Book Player Features:
- Ability to change read mode (from right to left or left to right)
- Ability to change orientation (landscape or portrait)
- Ability to change page layout (single page or double page, horizontal or vertical)
- Ability to automatically change to next chapter after completing the chapter

I just hope that the company is smart and moves forward with this request. There are many who do not bet on Plex because they do not have this option. I would increase subscribers if they could view books on Plex

If they really wanted to increase subscriptions, they could make the following only available with PLEX Pass.

I made a music library and called it audio books, and it’s surprisingly good at matching from the few that I’ve added so far.
Worth a try for those. I have a radio show & podcast library too, but have to manually maintain metadata which can be teeeeedious.
Please Plex, add this feature.

C’mon guys let’s integrate this, we’re waiting for this since over 9 years. I would even be willing to shill out some money for an extra pkg (lifetime!) just for this feature.

Are you a BA? Those are some beautiful requirements.
I also would love for plex to add this type of functionality. Right now I’m limited to porting all of my content to a kindle e-reader when I want book content. Having a similar media library based on ebook category would be a welcome addition.

PDF and CBR/CBZ + folders with jpeg/png named per page would be perfeccct. just add it with local metadata support only to make us happy then work on making it fancy later. come onnn.

I use the picture library to read mangas, (each page is one jpg picture)… add a book-mark will be nice to remember the page readed !
