No, they just don’t want to trun PLEX into an E-Reader.
As someone who made the switch to Plex for all of my media (besides gaming, which I use LaunchBox for). I absolutely need this. A lot of the readers/media servers for comics and books are not so great. Having something like this available on the go. Imagine watching the new Spider-Man movie, and seeing suggestions underneath it for some of the comic book series’. Sounds absolutely beautiful to me.
This would be the best feature Plex has released in years
Yes it would! But here just take the “more ways to watch” (that we’ll call a “beta”, but push out to everyone) and ignore the 2708 votes for this ![]()
I would also pay for this.
This needs to happen!
Do you guys just… not know that Tachiyomi exists?
Even though Comicrack isn’t in development anymore and has been pulled from the Google Store I still use it for cataloging and syncing comics to my tablet with Mylar. But I don’t know how long the app is going to stay alive. I might try your suggestion to see how it handles.
That doesn’t help for iOS users. ![]()
Plus the point remains that we want Plex to be our one Media Server
Hi @elan
I suggest you could possibly found a partner for engineering your own ebook reader (kobo, amazon, etc…). This ebook reader could connect to plex servers, on dedicated ebook libraries…
Would be amazing.
I’ll bought that for sure.
Thx. Have a nice day.
Please make this happen Plex. All good things take time, and I am sure most can wait. At least throw a development in progress announcement our way!
Been hoping for this for years.
After playing around with jellyfin and seeing it’s support for ebooks, I too would love to see Plex support this feature. Even at a basic level of was really nice having all my media in one place.
I would take this support over free movies and shows.
I would love this feature, Disappointing that it still hasn’t been implemented. Would be a bit of a game changer
Almost ten years later, there is still no result
Pretty sure they just don’t want to do it. Doesn’t matter how many people want it. They don’t want to do it.
Not sure how any company would ignore an active requests from their user base for almost 10 years. It’s both impressive and shocking at the same time.
I can see Plex redoing their Plug-In support and adding this functionality as an optional add-on.
Seriously, I don’t understand how a TV Guide took priority over this request.
Well, I am using plex now for about 2 months, I already have PPUnlimited and e-book capabilities would be AMAZING. But I guess what bothers me the most is that at this exact point in time this feature request is the most upvoted one in the whole forum. What’s up with all the tech companies building amazing software (I am looking at you plex team) but letting down users on a really great and needed feature?!
Please plex team it would be genius to have that feature. I don’t want more clutter on my phone and unraid server only to read my e-books in a nice and convenient way.
Correct me if I am wrong here but when Plexamp was released there were other self hosted music apps out there, right? But Plex clearly thought they can do a better job and they did it. Lately most of the positive posts about Plex I see online are from people praising Plexamp. Which is great.
So right now there are no good solutions to ebook/pdf/manga hosting and reading. Indie teams working on their brand new “Very fast and very modern” solution do exist and calibre also exists which are all flawed in many ways.
I have been looking for a solution to this issue for the last two years and I am still going back to adding them to Apple’s books app and relying on icloud syncing. Sharing with others? Nope. Reliable sync? Nope. Agent that recognizes the library content and organizes them? Nope. But at least the reading experience is better than most.
Clearly the best solution for me and many would be plex offering a solution for this. If anything, I haven’t seen a better product for hosting/consuming/sharing personal media than plex. Why not include reading material too?
This is the most requested feature in the forums. It is almost 10 years old. So my questions are,
- Are the management/employees against digital reading?
- Do plex employees simply not read anything besides documentation?
- Do they really think Calibre is doing a “fine” job?
- Do we(users) need to find a digital book/magazine seller to convince plex they could also make money by selling their offerings through such an app?
I am pretty sure there are multiple people who have voted/commented on this post that are no longer with us; just to give some context to 9+ years.
Until this request is implemented (If ever) I will use jellyfin latest version which supports azw, azw3, cb7, cbr, cbt, cbz, epub, mobi, and pdf for ebook read.

Made a mockup logo for a designated PlexReader app if it helps.
