PlexWeb - Disable the option to download subtitles from opensubtitles.org

For some time now, I have noticed the option to search for a subtitle using opensubtitles.org but never used it because I do not need it.
I have and always had the agent NOT checked so I had no idea why the option was there in the first place.
As long as it did not automatically download subtitles, I did not care.
Nevertheless, sharing my server with my family means they also have the option to download a subtitle and I would be fine with this, but, it seems if someone else searches and downloads a subtitle using their account, I will also see it on my account when I try to play a movie, without any option to delete the darn subtitle which most of the time is a google translate mess.
Am I missing something or there is no way to disable this stupid “feature”?
I understand to have it enabled if I enable the agent in settings. But not like this.

Anyone found a way to disable this on their server? Or am I doing something wrong and this “feature” should not appear if the agent is not enabled?

Later edit:
I found https://support.plex.tv/articles/subtitle-search/
It states “Subtitles searches are saved for each user separately. If a friend of yours needs a subtitle in different language than you, it will not show in your list.” which is NOT correct.
I have some movies that I never even played, yet they have a SRT from opensubtitles downloaded by someone else on different account then mine.

Thank you

I’m not seeing this behavior.

You are not seeing what exactly?

I just tested this for myself.
Logged in with another account, on another computer.
Picked a movie that I had not watched on both accounts and on the test account downloaded a SRT from opensubtitles.org via the WUI option.
Once downloaded, I could see the SRT on my primary account.
The only way I could easily delete the SRT was: from the account that actually downloaded teh SRT I had to select none as subtitle and ONLY then the SRT was deleted from both accounts.
If I select none from my primary account (the server owner) the SRT remains in the drop down list.

All of this.

Tested with another server and two users.
If 1st user downloads a SRT from opensubtitles.org in one language, lets say French and 2nd user wants to watch the movie and has setup French as preferred language, the 2nd user will see the SRT downloaded by the 1st user.
So would be nice to stop replying to posts without 1st checking we are talking about the same thing.

I hate the automatic subtitle load thing, too. It even gives me options to look for subtitles for “Home Videos” Just let me turn it off, so that no one I share with has the option. The files are downloaded to MY computer, and I don’t want someone else to have the ability to add files, even if they are temporary (but maybe not, according to the posts above)

I have properly synced subtitles already available for all of my videos. This is just an unnecessary annoyance.

I asked about 2 months ago for the ability to disable, but so far I’m just talking to myself, there.

I believe we are. There’s a catch though. I have PMS version 1.13.8 and managed accounts. Could be an issue… Who knows…

But what I did from my computer was log into a separate account(separate from my admin plexpass account), call it a friends account if you will. Selected the most recently added movie, downloaded one of the subs. Exited(incognito browsing). Logged into my admin account and it shows NONE w/none downloaded. Logged back into the friends account(incognito browsing) and it shows the sub. Exited again, then opened plex on my Android phone. The friends account still shows the sub.
My admin does not show the downloaded sub.

Do you mean they are enabled for you?

to be clear we are talking about “Subtitles on Demand” right? where one can search or upload a subtitle?

The open subtitles agent for getting subs automatically when adding a movie/episode is a separate thing.

Yes, I am talking about “Subtitles on Demand”, not the agent (which is disabled)
Yes, subtitles downloaded by other users, not managed users, on my server, are available by default to others if the preferred subtitle language is the same in account settings.
Sharing my server with my family, having the same language for subtitles is pretty common

Yeah for sure. afaik subs from SOD should not be enabled for you unless you were the one to add them. will make report for team to look into it. thanks for report.

Any news on this?

Just wanted to say that I have the same issue.

I have a lot of users. Like atleast 10-20 “active” users, who uses Plex either daily or weekly. And some of them downloads subtitles in some other languages than what I provide myself… Which is annoying, because with most foreign-language subtitles, it’s pretty much hit or miss in regards of quality, if it’s synced properly with the media file and so on…

Which then means that some TV episodes and movies have loads of subtitles that I have to manually remove, because of all of them shows up for me as well, even though I haven’t downloaded any of them…

And it’s incredibly annoying for someone like me, who really enjoys everything being neat and clean looking  .

I would be incredibly happy for a “disable subtitles on demand” feature, or for this to get fixed, so the individual user can use the subtitles they want, without me having to also see them.

Edit: To clarify, I am talking about users downloading subtitles through subtitles on demand.

Edit #2: Forgot to add something else, which is weird. I can’t remove the subtitles from my Plex Media Player application, but I can through my browser (Plex Web).
In Plex Web (through a browser), I delete it, log out and log in, and it’s gone.

I have to restart Plex Media Player as well for it to be fully removed (inside of Plex Media Player, after deleting a sub through Plex Web - if, for example a have them both opened simultaneously).

If I don’t, which is also weird, the subtitle duplicates (or shows up twice in the submenu for choosing subtitles before playing the media). But it’s fully removed after restarting Plex Media Player.

I hope I make any sense.
