PM4K / PlexMod for Kodi (18, 19, 20, 21, 22+)

It’s quite easy to use once you understand how it works.

You can either start a reply by quoting a text, or you can “Copy Quote”, which will also copy the reference to the user, if you’re still editing a reply. The same is possible when editing, selecting a text, then pressing “Quote”, which will append the quote into your currently open text editor.

OMG. Worst design ever. Never in a million years, would I have thought you had to manually select text TO GET THE UI COMMANDS TO SHOW. lol

Thanks

IDK, the software used is Disqus, which is extremely widely used now. I guess I’m just familiar with it by now to not question its UX

Edit: It’s actually quite natural to quote this way IMHO.

This is the only one I’ve seen using it. Trust me, it’s not intuitive whatsoever to a new user.

All good, no worries! If you’ve never encountered it before, it’s very different from traditional forums, definitely.

Intuitive, is when hitting reply to a post, it’s there automatically.

Hmm, debatable. I’d love to see a setting for this, though. Opt-in/out for always quoting when hitting reply on a post (instead of hitting reply on the thread).

@panni I noticed in kodi.log that PM4K has some error request error entries. It seems the port of my Plex server is somehow set to None and requests module can’t parse it. 2025-01-18 23:40:41.124 T:18232 info <general>: Loading skin file: /storage/. - Pastebin.com

Do you have an idea from where this could originating from? There is no noticable error on the UI, everything works as expected as far as I can tell.
I have PM4K caching requests enabled.

Can you please tell me how to clear the cache? I would do that, and re-test. If the error will be still there, I will provide logs. Thank you.

Nevermind, the long press on Home, Clear all caches I did. I will provide logs soon. BTW, it happens on start.

@panni it happens if I have “Prefer LAN/local servers over security” checked. If I uncheck that, there is no such error line in the logs.

I have this set at my Plex server:

And then if Prefer LAN/local servers over security is checked, then there is error during initial start of PM4K, but everything works.
If I uncheck that, there is the error in the log.

EDIT: I sent you logs in PM - Thanks!

WTF, “None” for the port? Can you enable debug-logging in PM4K and also enable “Dump config”, then post the log via DM?

Edit: Did you specify a manual server by any chance?

Edit 2: Also enable Debug Requests in AddonSettings

Edit 3: And yeah, this only seems to happen on exit. Did you clear your cache when upgrading from beta8 to beta8X?

Interesting.

no it’s not Android TV, though you can get Android TV UI, but you’re not using Android for playback media, you need to install CoreELEC on it (very easy) to unlock it’s full potential.

I tried to test it for you but they require a subscription to even start the ‘free’ trial. Even if it doesn’t work via IP control, it’s just a regular IR device so every remote code will work like anything else.

Do you have a whitelists on your 4K GUI resolution? If not then Kodi is doing the upscaling vs your TV, which will generally be worse for PQ on <4K content. Eg, my LG G2 does a better job upscaling vs Kodi upscale.

There is no reason for 4K GUI res on Am6b+/CoreElec-NG. It is just an upscaled 2K GUI anyway since the kernel is not capable of native 4K GUI.

The advantage of 1080p and 120Hz refresh rate is out-of-box TV upscaling and much smoother GUI vs 60Hz in Kodi. If 4K GUI is important then you really should be using a S928X device and CoreElec-NO.

Not true at ALL. Run both and see for yourself. The background and poster art is much more detailed in 4k, using the changes detailed just above, than running in 1080.

Settings question - on first PM4K boot in the upper right is a countup to 100% that says delay after boot. Seems to be about 5 seconds worth. Is there a setting to turn this off? i vaguely remember something during initial box setup (ugoos) but sure can’t find it now.

Like I said, just a Kodi upscale and you give up faster menu browsing + are forced to set a whitelist.

Well, if one day you switch everything and look, you’ll understand. It’s a very visible difference. I prefer way better GUI details than going from 60 to 120Hz.

well people might like watching UI details all day so thats good too, I’m a simple man, I see the media I want to watch and press play.

I’m with you in that one @Gilgamesh. Each to their own I suppose.

lol no one said anything about ‘watching UI details all day’ I simply like scrolling through good looking stuff better than blurrier

I think independently if we run Kodi UI 1080p or 2160p, 60Hz or 120Hz, it would definitely make sense to apply what is written here: Advanced ‐ Artwork Quality · pannal/plex-for-kodi Wiki · GitHub

Personally, I will try to to keep my setup running in 1080p 120Hz, and skip poster and background image resolution scaling, but apply

  <fanartres>2160</fanartres>
  <imageres>2160</imageres>
  <imagequalityjpeg>0</imagequalityjpeg>

These settings are all supposed to serve better image quality.

Additionally, I will probably also set

<imagescalingalgorithm>lanczos</imagescalingalgorithm>

My expectation is that with this settings, I can keep the snappiest UI, and also increase a bit the artwork image quality.
I will report back.
