PM4K / PlexMod for Kodi (18, 19, 20, 21, 22+)

Hi, I was wanting to inquire about the subtitle-delay-appearance fix from a year ago? Any news regarding that being merged into the official add-on on repository?

I’ll try and fix some of those errors when I have the time. As those seem to happen after playback has already failed, those fixes might not fix the actual issue.

@panni

I found the issue behind the playback failing.

I had plex setup to bypass authentication in case of a outage. In Plex>Settings>Network>LAN Networks I had “192.168.1.0/24”

I also had Plex>Settings>Network>List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth set to “192.168.1.0/24” .

These fields are typically left blank, but due to the auth servers going down a lot I enabled auth bypass to still be able to at least play media while the auth servers are down on my own network.

Now 18.x works with your plex kodi addon, but kodi 19.x does not. Im not sure if this is something you can investigate, it might be something with the kodi 19 backend?

There shouldn’t be any major differences. Do you have a log?

Edit: The errors might be different now that you’ve changed that setting.

I can grab another log, do you want a log of me using Kodi 18.9 with GitHub - pannal/plex-for-kodi at develop_kodi19 and the settings for local auth I had before?

hastebin was the original log that I posted with the errors in 19.x

I can also send a log of kodi now working with 19.x and the auth settings disabled.

Let me know and I’ll try to get then soon.

That would be helpful as it’ll possibly differ from your initial log.

Hi,

I had the same issue with playback not starting (KODI 19.x with Plex add-on 0.33) on both a ShieldTV 2017 and a brand new ShieldTV 2019 with fresh KODI 19.1 install.

I also had enabled bypass authentication on my Plex Server.

I can confirm that after removing the list of IP addresses from Plex>Settings>Network>List of IP addresses playback now works again!!

Many thanks to @Macieksoft for discovering this.

Removing the list of IP addresses that don’t need auth also fixed this for me. Kodi no longer hangs the shields remote from working that I’d have to physically power cycle it to get it to work again. HEVC (h.265) along with Dolby Atmos + TrudeHD is also working again. Now that the issues has been discovered, how long will it take Plex to fix the bug is anyone’s guess.

OK, that’s conflicting info now. @Macieksoft in Kodi 19 it doesn’t work for you, but for @Ryushin it does, after removing the explicit IPs?

No, I’m in the same boat as Ryushin .

  • Kodi 19.X + develop_kodi19 branch works after removing the IP addresses in the “networks that are allowed without auth” field.
  • Kodi 19.X + develop_kodi19 Does not work with the “networks that are allowed without auth” field populated.
  • Kodi 18.9 + develop_kodi18 branch Works with the with the “networks that are allowed without auth” field populated.

I will grab the logs from my Nvidia Shield when I get a chance. Ill send the log of Kodi 18.9 working, Kodi 19.X working (with auth IPs disabled), and you already have hastebin which is 19.X not working (auth IPs enabled).

Can you try adding the ip:port to manual connections in the P4K addon settings? Does that fix the issue as well?

Ok, so it does work
but there are some issues

I populated these in P4K addon settings (Kodi 19.X + develop_kodi19 branch) :

  • Connection 1 IP : 192.168.1.173

  • Connection 1 Port: 32400

hastebin is the log for Kodi 19.X + develop_kodi19 branch working with “networks that are allowed without auth” field populated.

The thing is that once I restart Kodi it will not always work even though I have connection 1 IP and connection 1 port still populated. To get it to always work you have to clear the IP and re-enter it each time you start up P4K. If you don’t it will freeze the Nvidia shield like it did before. Sometimes it will play the media back after you close the P4K app directly in the kodi interface.

hastebin is the log for Kodi 19.X + develop_kodi19 branch not working after restarting P4K with “networks that are allowed without auth” field populated and the Connection 1 IP and Connection 1 Port populated.

@panni EDIT: hastebin log for Kodi 18.9 + develop_kodi18 branch working with the with the “networks that are allowed without auth” field populated. No need to touch the connection 1 and port 1, 18.9 with your addon always works.

Huge thanks for this, has been driving me mad trying to work out what was causing this exact issue. My setup, Plex Client on Pi4 running either LibreElec Kodi 19.x or OSMC Kodi 19.x, connecting to Plex Server running on a Intel NUC 11 i5 / Win 10 Enterprise.

Using Kodi 19 I would get the spinning wheel for around 40sec before content would play, switched MicroSD card back to Kodi 18 on same hardware everything worked as expected.

Since removing Plex>Settings>Network>List of IP addresses everything is now running as expected, very happy, cheer mate.

Just to confirm that this fix has also resolved my Kodi 19 issues on my Shield TV, very pleased. I have been filling in the “networks without auth” for longer than I can remember, I would never have thought to clear them to workaround this bug. Thanks @Macieksoft for finding this, and of course @panni for his addon branches.

I’d been using PKC, which is a worthy alternative, but the P4K addon is just faster and smoother. Delighted to have it back.

That’s great, but it’s not a fix it’s a workaround. The next time the Plex auth servers have an issue (which lets face it is fairly common), none of your playback is going to work.

As you’re already using Kodi, just drop this Plex addon completely until it’s actually fixed, and use PlexKodiConnect instead, which works fine.

Since the work around, everything was working perfectly, but then, and I’m not sure if this is the same bug or not, but after an Plex Server update, any skipping forward or back causes audio to go in and out every second. I have to stop playback all together. I’ve been having to use the Plex app for now (and that also has it’s problems). This seems to happen a bit more with TrueHD tracks (I have not tested DTS-X) as I think it worked fine with DTS and AC3 tracks. I’ll need to do more testing.

Interesting. As there have been no changes to the addon, did you upgrade your Kodi in the meantime maybe? Otherwise this actually might be a PMS issue.

Kodi is running 19.1 now. But yea, I think it is probably a PMS issue. I could try downgrading PMS from a month ago and see how it goes. Not sure if it will affect the PMS DB though.

That’s a client issue, not a server issue. As soon as I upgraded to Kodi 19.1 I experienced this behavior.
Another issue I have noticed is that when I change a subtitle it needs to reload the whole stream.

I also just ran into this issue after upgrading my Vero 4K + to 19.1 and plex 0.3.3.

I removed the local IP’s from that server setting and then everything worked and video plays instantly now.

Not sure who can fix this but I hope this bug does get fixed cause when our internet goes down those IP’s need to be in place so we can watch plex movies on our local network without an internet network log in
