PMS Server is crashing frequently on Windows 10. I’m running the latest version and not sure what caused the issue or how to fix it. Server logs are attached but here is the snippet just before the crash:

I’m seeing a similar issue – I think. Plex media server will crash within 2-5 minutes, at most, of launching. This just started with the 1.14.1.5488 version. I can’t prove that’s the cause, but I can’t think of anything else significant that has changed. I’ve removed newly added media, just in case, to no avail.
I can see crashes for your server when processing EPG data - could you send me by private message your DVR setup info:
Country/Postal zip code entered/ EPG source selected from setup menu and which channels selected
Thanks. I deleted the DVR - something I had thought about but hadn’t tried yet - and it seems to be working OK. I’ll report back to this thread if that doesn’t work. I’ll PM requested information.
@sa2000, Do you have any estimate on when the next release can be expected? PMS is crashing every few minutes. Are there any manual steps I can take to mitigate this issue?
I have been having this same issue since updating to 1.14.1.5488 in mid December and it is extremely frustrating.
Based on the post above stating " The crash is when handling TV episodes/shows and processing recently added items but crashing because they do not exist anymore", I disabled all the scheduled tasks in Settings from running automatically until the fix is made in the next release.
This temporary fix stopped my computer from crashing at random. When adding new files to the database, I do a manual scan and sometimes it will crash the server and sometimes it doesn’t. This is the only work around I have found and it has eased the pain.
You’ll still see crashes and the inability to tune to stations OR after a period of time the LiveTV will just abort. Many times when that happens you’ll see the guide mostly blank but then if you try to tune again it will re-populate BUT you’ll be on another station in the guide. Tuning in to shows being recording seems particularly likely to fail but that’s all anecdotal. Has many symptoms of a memory leak but who knows. PLEX has claimed in a couple other threads to have found the problems but that was days ago and there have been no updates published which I am aware of.
@elan
ALL this has been continually reported and Elan jumped in before the Holidays to quell the uproar over the changes and the bugs, PROMISING that they heard people loud and clear and things would improve. He shut down some threads and discussions, PLEX left us with a mess over the Holidays, they shut down, and now we appear to be back at square one with business as usual. My LiveTV/DVR is so unstable that I’ve started to trial alternatives. I’ve already paid my PLEX Pass life and own the tuner cards so it’s no loss to me to check in periodically but unless there is serious change I doubt I’ll return to relying on PLEX for much. I’ve got tuner-less TVs in the bedrooms so I need something.
Strange that if they’ve found the bugs they haven’t fixed them. I guess time will tell!
I personally don’t find that amusing but whatever. When will the release be delivered? THAT would be an update. Like I said, looks like a return to business as usual. These bugs have existed for a LONG time…
I’ve managed IT at my company for years and understand that things are ever changing, mostly for the better, and annoying issues crop up through the process. As a software user, it can be frustrating and seem like an eternity for problems to get resolved when you are not involved in the process, but they eventually do. Trashing things you don’t know or assume doesn’t ever solve any problems.
I found Plex early last year and think it is one of the best things I have purchased in a long time. I have enjoyed building my own personal media library and it has been nice to see family members enjoy it all the way across the country. Thank you for a great product and I have the patience and understanding to live through hiccups along the way. Keep up the good work and I look forward to improvements along the way!
If you’re asking me, I have used the live TV feature in Plex on occasion but prefer the built-in tuner in my new Samsung QLED Smart TV, it works great. I also use the HDHomerun app with my HDHomerun tuners on Amazon Fire Sticks on my older TVs, which also works very well. The Live TV in Plex is sluggish and could use improvement, but this is not the topic of this thread.
Until the latest software release, the Plex DVR has performed flawlessly for me. I have been amazed how well it accurately removes commercials and the quality of the recordings. Set it up and Plex does all the work. Since mid-December, the guide and DVR recording has been a little flaky. It will not record some shows and I have no idea why.
When Plex scans the media libraries, something is happening to cause the server to crash with this latest version. It appears Plex is aware of this issue and is working to fix it. Disabling the automatic scanning in settings as I mentioned above has temporarily helped me keep my server running for longer periods of time. I will do a manual scan of each library, periodically, knowing that I will have to restart Plex afterwards, disrupting and losing active DVR recordings or remote viewing. You must pick a time that minimizes the loss.
I am hopefully optimistic that Plex will fix some of these issues in the next release to return to the more stable versions of the past.
I thought so based on your response. The recent release basically broke LiveTV/DVR so if you depended on it you’ve been without for about a months now. 5488 is the culprit IMO and crashes as well as causes many of the issues.
