another guy meet the same issue

here is the pic that shows the issue

Hello. can you share me font file?

I can’t find any previous version of pms.

NOTOSANSCJK.zip (28.3 MB)

replace the font file

I replaced font file but it’s not working :frowning:

this time i tried downgrade pms version to 1.13. and used font file from 1.15 it shows correctly…

maybe it’s not problem with font file

We had manually added it in 1.13.6 Is this what you’re seeing?

@tracertw @ChuckPa

This issue occurs on the synology platform but not the Ubuntu platform.

This issue is related to the font prase, but the infomation I mentioned above is wrong.

Replace the NotosansCJK font files can not fix the problem.

I actually fix this problem by adding extra NotoSansCJKsc font file to the plex server font directory. NotoSandCJKsc font is the Chinese subset of NotoSansCJK.

I can reproduce this issue 100%, plz see the 2 images below.

First, with extra font files added, the issue fixed.

Then, remove these 2 extra font files via ssh, play the same video again, the subtitles issue appears.

Sorry for my bad English, I hope my description is clear.

Thank you for that.

I have left a note here in the thread for the Engineering team. They will see your replies and apply that

Server Version#: 1.15.3.858-fbfb913f7
Player Version#: 7.13.0

I tested my self for each case.

case 1
Direct with SRT = working
Direct with SMI = not working (Does not try to burn) NO Subtitle

case 2
Transcoding with SRT = working
Transcoding with SMI = working (Subtitle breakdown as “ㅁㅁㅁ” and delay response with message “not powerful enough to transcode” from player. And automatically drop quality)

Form log
“[Transcoder] [Parsed_inlineass_2 @ 0x2049940] fontselect: Using default font: (Arial, 400, 0) -> /volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Fonts/DejaVuSans-Regular.ttf”

Case3
After Case 2, I try to change case 1, I cannot change to direct play. It stuck on the transcoding option.

Common problem
I cannot play with Subtilte. If I want to play with subtitle, I have to turn off subtitle option and play and than turn on the subtitle options.
If I didn’t follow this instruction, I get message "Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app”.
Upper tested three cases are followed this rule.

Tried to solve
I put Arial fonts at “/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Fonts”. It worked. “ㅁㅁㅁ” Subtitle has gone. But, still I have to disable subtitle to play a movie. And still shows error on logs follows as

  1. [Transcoder] Error while decoding stream #1:0: Operation not permitted
  2. [Transcoder] [Parsed_inlineass_2 @ 0x266a800] fontselect: Using default font family: (Arial, 400, 0) -> /volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Fonts/DejaVuSans-Regular.ttf, 0, DejaVuSans[Parsed_inlineass_2 @ 0x266a800]

I know that “smi” subtitle have to be burn to show on video.

What is this problems? Could you help me out?
Sorry for the edits. English is not my first language. I tried to make sense.

  1. Direct with SMI // 2. Direct with SRT
  2. Transoding SMI // 4. Transcoding SRT

Direct_smi Direct_SRT Trans_smi Trans_SRT
