PMS 1.22.1.4275 / 1.22.2.4276 & DSM 6 / 7 issues

ALL:

This thread is dedicated to addressing and resolving issues resulting from the the build system failure (builds 4271 - 4274)

To be clear:

This is to address and resolve problems restoring normal startup , control and usage.

This thread does not exist to discuss any functional changes introduced.

Obtaining logs

DSM 6 & 7 – Obtain logs normally if you can.

DSM 7 systems which fail to start may use the Logfile redirection feature of the GUI installer to move the logs to an accessible share for manual collection.

DSM 6 systems which fail to start may gather manually from the Plex share normally

I will need:

  1. DEBUG (NOT VERBOSE) log files ZIP which capture (or immediately after restart) are needed.
  2. As detailed a description as possible (step-by-step outline format is best)

WARNING: OFF TOPIC posts will be deleted without warning.

Let me give this a start then. Happy to further debug.

Lifetime Plex Pass.

Upgraded Synology DS918+ to DSM 6.2.4-25556. After restarting, Plex library would show as Unavailable, with orange exclamation mark. Nothing would play at all.

TLDR went through a lot of posts here, and came across 1.22.2.4276-3cbd5e781-x86_64_DSM6. Installed that, still same problem - did not solve anything.

Next day I noticed another version in downloads page, 1.22.2.4282-a97b03fad-x86_64_DSM6. Installed that and, Plex finally (almost) works again,

  • I can play my videos from my Mac Plex Client
  • I can play my videos from my iPhone Plex client
  • I can NOT play from Plex Web. It still shows my library as unavailable with orange exclamation mark.

Plex Mac: Version 1.30.1.2115-81e1fc3f

Skip ~1 week till today morning, where my whole library disappeared without a trace. I.e., previously it would show up as unavailable, but now there’s no trace of it at all.

I tried restarting plex, rebooting NAS, uninstalling & reinstalling the latest 1.22.2.4282-a97b03fad-x86_64_DSM6 again to no avail.

Furthermore, Plex Client (Mac and other) also show the online media as unavailable with orange exclamation mark (There was an unexpected error) - i.e. for podcasts, live tv, music, etc…

Plex mac also experiencing some lag - unresponsive for few seconds, then responds for a second, then unresponsive for few more, then responsive for second… I noticed it trying to enable debugging and/or navigate the menus.

Debug logs can be found here from my Plex Mac: Dropbox - plex-debug1.txt - Simplify your life

Edit 1: I’m not 100% sure if there are other logs you need, but if so please do let me know (where/how to find them would appreciate it too).

Edit 2: Managed to find plex server logs, here: Dropbox - plex_server_logs.tgz - Simplify your life

I’m not sure why the server logs say it can’t resolve plex.tv … My tests do seem to resolve it. Yes plex.tv doesn’t respond to ICMP (seems it’s setup as such), but I do get a 301 when I hit it.

Thank you for those logs but those are the Plex/Web client.

Server logs are needed. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs.
It will present you with a ZIP file.

Upload that ZIP file here. If desired, I will delete when downloaded.

Sorry, just uploaded the server logs for you (see updated link and info in above comment). I couldn’t find them via the UI (there’s no server section or troubleshooting section there?!) so I gzipped them manually .

Thanks for the update. I’ll give it all a reboot and let you know how it goes soon.

Just curious, as I cannot find said menu links anywhere.. Plex Settings > “Server” (and beyond) does not exist. Tried both from Plex Web, and Plex for Mac.

The only logs I found are for the Web/Mac Debugging (set to Enabled, nothing on Verbose that I’m aware of).

(the greyed part is another friend’s library he shared with me, greyed for privacy sake).

Thanks!

Yea, in that case, my server disappeared and is not showing.

Rebooted my gateway/router, switch, NAS and Mac Air, and connectivity to the outside is working from Plex again. I see my server as well from all 3 apps (web/phone/mac). Although the Mac App is still hideously slow / laggy, when navigating around but I’ll troubleshoot that and branch out to another thread if anything.

Apologies if this was not related to the underlying DSM issue, I’ll let you know if I observe anything else that might be related.

Thanks again for the help!
