PMS 1.25.8 not installing on DSM7

Server Version#:1.25.8.5663
Player Version#:N/A

Hi everyone,
I’m having an installation issue with the latest version of PMS on a DS218+.
Background: I had a previous PMS install that was not much used previously, and it underwent the DSM6 to DSM7 migration, however I never used PMS while on DSM7, so no issue there. Eventually I no longer needed PMS so I uninstalled the package (erase option), removed the “Plex” share and the “plex” user, all while already on DSM7.
Problem is, now I would like to reinstall PMS, so I downloaded the latest Intel64 version of the package, went to manually install it on the NAS, but it won’t go through: as soon as I select the file location and click “next”, the install window goes on a neverending “treatment, please wait” (sorry if inaccurate translation) with a spinning circle, and it never goes to the next step.
So far I’ve tried different locations for the package file on my PC and on the NAS, rebooted the NAS several times, and even went through the process that is supposed to help with a migration from DSM6 without uninstalling PMS, giving all the permissions to “PlexMediaServer” and recreating a “Plex” share.
Could anyone help me figuring this out?
Thanks,
Ben

Are you using DSM 7.0.1 OR Are you using DSM 7.1 Beta/RC ?

DSM 7.1 Beta/RC has problems. I am working with Synology to resolve before DSM launches , if possible.

I will also need more information about your DSM 6 → DSM 7 migration.
That task does take a very long time to complete for some users (2 weeks for one user).

Anything you can detail (screenshots or whatever) helps.
Breaking it down for me (line by line if need be) helps.
I’m trying to create the mental image of what you have

DSM 7 does not create a Plex share anymore.

You should read up on all the changes.

Hi @ChuckPa,

I am using DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 3.

About the timeline:

  • I was using DSM6 like everyone else, with PMS installed and working.
  • Updated to DSM7 when the official release came (within a week of release).
  • Got rid of PMS as explained in previous post, never checked if I had the migration-related issues before uninstalling (probably within 1-2 months of upgrading DSM).
  • Tried to install PMS again (from yesterday).
  • It doesn’t work (attachment doesn’t work), tried the things described in previous post.

I’ve already gone quickly over the posts you linked, but AFAIK I’m not supposed to be in their scenarios. My DSM7 upgrade was a long time ago and went flawlessly for everything so far, and for all I know, I am doing a PMS fresh install, which should not be an issue at all. Thing is I don’t know if it’s PMS or DSM that’s bugging.

Let me know if I can add more info.
Thanks

Thanks for that additional detail.

To confirm (this should be academic):

  1. You don’t have an existing “Plex” shared folder with Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server in it.

  2. You had a valid & running server in the PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server directory but removed that.

  3. Now you want to do a fresh installation.

  4. It’s spinning at the package installation or when you first open PMS ?

Hey,
So just to TL:DR you, it worked and installed first time I tried today, did nothing.

But if you ever need some info to document this event for further troubleshooting, I’ll answer your previous questions.

  1. I had no such share before installation finally went through miraculously.
  2. Probably, but I never cared to check since I didn’t use PMS at the time, and then yes I scrapped all that.
  3. Yes I did.
  4. It did so for about 2-3 days, over many attempts, from package files located at various places (PC and NAS), and a few NAS reboots did nothing to it.

But as stated atop, I went for a “give it a whirl just in case”, and it instantly worked, so now I’m all set and my server is perfectly accessible. I’m not gonna ask how or why, I’m just happy it went that way.

I guess you can close this thread, and I thank you again for your help.
