Sorry if this has been asked a million times before.
I currently have PMS running on a windows 10 machine. On the wireless network, I have a Roku stick running Plex, and this is how we stream our content to the home theater. I find that high bitrate video degrades a lot and I get the dreaded 33% spinning wheel often.
This is what I want to do: have a new TV box, preferably Android, connected by USB 3.0 to a NAS where the video files are saved. The PMS will be located on the Windows 10 machine, and this machine must also have access to the NAS folder. Is there a solution to this, and will it result in a significant performance boost over the current configuration?
Thjere is no point in connecting the player and the NAS directly. During playback, all data go through the server machine. (which is the Windows box in your case)
So I would need to run PMS directly on the TV box and store the files there if I want the fastest possible playback. Or run ethernet cable through the house.
Last question! Would the nvidia Shield be an option? It runs PMS, has USB for NAS, and I assume it would be visible on my home network to send files. I was hoping to have a cheaper solution but this might be the only way (other can cables).
It is a nice player. For a server I can only recommend it if you have a moderate number of files.
And since it runs on Android, you cannot use any Plugins and you also cannot backup the database, becasue there is no user-access to the Plex data folder.
