PMS Auto-Scan Not Working Properly

Server Version#:latest
Player Version#:latest
I have been struggling with an issue for years: my PMS server is deployed on a Win11 machine, and the media files are stored on a network storage accessed via SMB. However, the auto-scan feature in PMS has never worked properly, and I always have to manually update the media library. I don’t want to use the scheduled media library refresh option because it causes transcoding issues with videos that contain EAC audio.

You don’t want refresh. You want “update”.

i set maintenance as three day a time ,too long for me :smiling_face_with_tear:

Sorry, I don’t understand.

I checked “scan my library automatically,” but every time I add media files, it doesn’t automatically scrape the media and add it to the library.

sorry for my poor english :smiling_face_with_tear:

This I understand. You wrote it already above.

What I don’t understand is “three day a time”.

it’s every three days
sorry

That “3 day”-setting is only affecting the frequency of the database backup.
It has nothing to do with all the other maintenance options. These are performed daily.

here is the things ,I already turn the “update all libraries during maintenance” setting for a long time .it seems not fix the problem,

Are you sure that your NAS device is available between 3:00 and 8:00 every night?
Not only that it is switched on, but also that the network connection between your server and the NAS is working.
Some people are programming their NAS to shut down during the night, because they think they don’t use it during that time.
Do you allow your NAS to spin down the hard drives’ platters when they are idle?

my nas always working in 7x24h

I try run pms as admin ,now it works :smiling_face_with_tear:
really werid windows permision isuue

years problem solved

That is a bad idea.

Isn’t there a problem with detecting changes when it’s SMB? I read these settings can’t detect changes through SMB? Maybe the OP was talking about this “auto-scan feature.”

OP If you’re good with third party apps, you can install autoscan on the machine where your media is located. Then, when it detects local changes, it will send a request to scan via API to your Plex server. I use that script instead of Plex’s built-in auto scan because it’s more configurable.
