What Would Cause My PMS To Run a Full Library Refresh Outside Task Hours?

Hey, all!
I’m running PMS on Windows 10, and have been for over a year and love it. Recently I’ve been a bit frustrated, though. I have my server set to run tasks from 10a to 2pm daily, yet it seems like practically every single night right around peak watching time (6 to 9pmish) it’s doing some kind of full library refresh/scans. Things that take a couple hours to do, and can really impact server performance.

Does anyone have any idea why it would do these things outside scheduled task hours? Are there tasks that don’t (and aren’t supposed to for some reason) adhere to maintenance hours?

If you have media in your library which PMS can’t / hasn’t matched, it will try to keep matching it.

Depending on your Library options, it’s likely a date/time modified stamp detection is also triggering the scan and not able to scan only the item changed.
This happens a lot if you have OTA capture turned on but don’t have “Partial Scan when changes are detected” checked in your Library settings.

A great tool which helps you find out what PMS does know about your media , specifically if something is missing or not from the file system or the DB is WebTools. It’s in the Plug-ins channel. Current version is 2.3. This is what will point to what’s not right with your media, if anything.

I do add or replace items in my library several times a week. All my items in all my libraries other than home videos are definitely matched, though. I do have WebTools, but I had only used it for some subtitle maintenance and to have the ability to add additional channels–I’ll check out some of the other tools within it, thanks for the heads up!

I don’t have any automated media adding done, like OTA capture, DVR or anything. Any media I add is done manually, and I always update library immediately after to make sure it’s matched correctly, adjust the poster to my liking, etc.

I had my maintenance window set for only 2 hours (10 to noon), so I bumped that to 4, and then unchecked “update my library periodically” under 'Library" in settings. I thought since this isn’t on the scheduled tasks tab, that maybe it doesn’t schedule it for during maintenance time.

So now under the “Library” tab I have nothing checked except to run scanner tasks at low priority, and under the “Scheduled Tasks” tab, I have everything checked, and the time set for 10a to 2p. Other than unchecking update library periodically, this is basically how it was before, too.

We’ll see if extending the maintenance hours and telling it not to update on it’s own does it. Thanks for taking the time to offer suggestions!

Since you do add / replace media several times a week, Please make it a point to help out PMS by manually optimizing your DB. That normally runs weekly but you might be one of those who needs it more frequently.
