Over the summer, my server started having intermittent internet. I was in a place that had poor internet, and assumed that was the problem. More recently, I moved to a place with stable internet, but the machine hosting PMS still drops out. It will usually be online for 3-5 minutes, then lose internet for 5-15 minutes. The interesting thing is that it is solid on the LAN, the connection breaks at the hop past the gateway. My libraries are on a network drive, and it never loses connection to that. Similarly, I can use any other machine on my LAN to SSH into this machine when it loses access to internet.
My setup is Ubuntu Server 22.04.1 LTS running as a Virtual Machine on ESXI. There are two other VM’s on this ESXI host, internet does not go down for them.
I suspected it may be an issue in Ubuntu, so I built a new VM (Ubuntu Server 22.04.1 LTS). It had solid internet all through OS installation. Then, almost as soon as I installed plexmediaserver, I lost internet. Since then, this new machine has had intermittent internet just like the old one. If I SSH into it and run “sudo systemctl stop plexmediaserver” I have solid internet again.
I do not have remote access turned on.
Is there any way to tell what is happening that breaks internet? Or is Plex sending some kind of traffic that my ISP (CenturyLink) is blocking for some reason??? If so, what could that be?
Logs attached.
