Plex on Nvidia TV Shield Pro
- I have a Nvidia TV Shield Pro on the back of my ancient Samsung TV.
- It’s got the Plex App Installed. Version 9.7.0.34811. I assume this install covers PMS and the Plex Play software.
- The Shield Pro is connected to Internet and LAN. It’s IP address is 192.168.1.47.
- I can ping the Nvidia TV Shield Pro over the LAN.
- I have (I think) installed and configured PMS on the Nvidia TV Shield Pro.
- I wish to access c.1.5TB of movies on my PC (W10) at 192.168.1.187
- I have an Ethernet LAN in my house at 2400 Mbps. I hate WiFi.
- I have connected (I think) External Storage, my PC, it shows 1 mount of 1.7TB on the Nvidia TV Shield Pro; that’s my PC’s movies folder. Connected. So far so good.
- When I go into Plex ( PMS?) on the Nvidia TV Shield Pro and try and locate ANY of my media files resident on the PC I fail.
- I am invited to download PMS on the machine where my media files are located. The PC.
- I do not wish to load PMS onto my PC. I’m just using the PC as the storage on the Network.
- I used Plex from 2014 to 2019/20 on my PC. The shitshow that was/is transcoding stopped me using your product about 2+ years ago. It crippled my machine i5 4690, 16 Gb ram. And yes, I’ve never gamed in my life.
- I wanted to offload all transcoding onto the NVIDIA or this isn’t going to work for me. I think I had a kludge working for this 6 months ago; I had PMS running on both the PC and the Nvidia. Periodically, the PC would launch itself into transcoding hell and kill the data transfer to Nvidia. So, I gave up.
- Yes, you guessed it, I do not want to dangle a USB storage device off the back of the TV.
- I cannot see any ‘ idiots ‘ guide to setting up Nvidia/PMS to access content over a LAN.
- Am I missing something ?
