DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 2

Hello,

This morning I installed the latest version of PMS (PlexMediaServer-1.24.4.5081) coming off ver. PlexMediaServer-1.22.0.4163. Typically as I have done many times in the past I uninstall the old version and manually install the new version. After the install I can no longer reach plex from any of my local PCs or apple devices, fire sticks, etc. All are in the same LAN. I also can’t reach the server remotely.

I’ve been browsing the forum for a solution to no avail. I believe I tried everything. For instance. Rolling back to version 1.22, doesn’t work. Also tried the below.

Reboot the modem/router and everything connected to it, including any wireless devices.

Make sure your NAS and PC/Mac/Linux machine are on the same subnet.

Then, try the following:

  1. Open Plex by typing http://YOUR_NAS_IP_ADDRESS:32400/web in to the browser and sign out (Head/Gravatar icon top right of screen), if you are able to, continue if not.
  2. Stop all Plex servers from running.
  3. Go to https://plex.tv and sign out of your account there.
  4. Open File Station and navigate to:
    Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server and rename Preferences.xml to Preferences.xml.old
  5. Restart Plex on the NAS, but wait a few minutes before continuing.
  6. Open Plex by typing http://YOUR_NAS_IP_ADDRESS:32400/web in to the browser.
  7. Sign in and claim the server, if needed, in Plex Settings > Server > General
  8. Restart any other Plex servers

Note: Replace YOUR_NAS_IP_ADDRESS with your actual NAS IP Address, ONLY!

I’m at a loss. Logs attached please assist.

Hello, I figured it out. After trying everything I could think of I realized that typically I install the new PLEX packages using the local admin account. A couple DSMv6 updates back I disabled the local admin account, and now use my admin account primarily. I suppose there’s some privilege difference between them even though I’m an admin. Anyway, uninstalled one more time then reinstalled, then started. All is working now as expected.

Yeah I’ll pass. I don’t have support on this system, and not going to risk bricking it trying to upgrade DSM to v7. Everything is running great on the latest supported version. Sometimes when things aren’t broke leave them alone. Until this Plex update today I’ve been running for years without incident.

Oof, after reading up on the things needed to be done to install and migrate a DSM 6 Plex build to DSM 7, I decided to stay on DSM 6 myself. It should be ok to keep running on DSM 6 for Plex, unless the devs drop support for it, but that may be years.

So that everyone can breathe again –

I won’t be dropping packaging support for DSM 6 until sometime after DSM 8 comes out, and the number of DSM 6 downloads dwindles to extremely low numbers — and we know how long it will be until that happens.
