PMS Crashes Every Night on Mac (affecting multiple customers)

Hi all,

Since 1.19.1.2645 (stable) my PMS has been crashing overnight. I have attached log files but need some assistance please.

I am running Mojave 10.14.6 and have not had issues before. Nothing has changed since .2645. There are others that have a similar issue, so I don’t think it’s my mac that is causing issues.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

(PS - I also have logs with Verbose mode on, if that is of help)

I’m also seeing this - it seems to have started in the last week or so - I can’t pull logs after updating last night because my server crashed again and I’m not able to restart it from work.

Looks like this is affecting more and more people. Can someone look into this please

Thanks

Update: PMS crashing overnight on version 1.20.5.3583 (currently the latest) (File removed)

Latest logs attached and looks like more customers are facing this issue as well.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

In the topics I have seen about it there was some sort of OS level ad blocker app they were using and need to disable

Thank you for the reply.

I have an adblocker in Chrome which I will test (by removing and retrying). However, this does not explain why an older version of PMS is stable and anything after 1.19.1.2645 crashes. If that is not the source of the issue, can someone investigate further please ?

Cheers

Are there any crash logs?

Hi,

RE: crash logs …

I have attached what I could find. Please let me know if this is ok or if you need more.

Thank you for taking the time to look into this

Cheers

does your file /Volumes/3TB Data 02/TV/The Wire/Season 3/S03E09 Slapstick.avi have a flac audio track?

also can you turn off intro detection in scheduled tasks settings and tell me if it does it again tonight with it off. Your server logs seem to just stop while it is doing that at like 3am then the next log is you starting the server up the next day.

How do I tell ? (I can remove it from my Plex library if need be)

Couldn’t see “Intro detection” in PLEX, Settings, scheduled tasks. However, i was able to find it in two places and have turned them off in both:-

  1. Edit TV Shows, Advanced
  2. Settings, Library
    (see screen shots)

Will let you know what happens in the morning :+1:

Go to that episode click on the three dots on lower right of poster or on top right of preplay screen and choose Get Info. The window that pops up will have the file path and media info about the file

doesn’t look like it

I’m surprised your not having metadata issues

You file path should read like this.

/Volumes/3TB Data 02/TV/The Wire/Season 03/The Wire - S03E09 - Slapstick.avi

Named .avi
But it’s an MP3.
10 hours, 22 minutes, 47 seconds

Plex shouldn’t be crashing, but your file is … suspect.

yeah something is wacky with that file which is one of the last it was processing.

I thought he is just scrolled down so you don’t see the video part in last column but the logs did seem to indicate that it thinks the file does not have a video track.

My first reaction to .avi was revulsion, but the duration caught my eye!

Definitely try moving that file out so Plex can’t see it. Actually I’m curious if you can play it in VLC, or if it’s just a busted file.

I concur with Volts the duration is a definite clue to a :upside_down_face: malformed file

For my own (in)sanity, I used a time machine and found a sample .avi with an MP3 stream. It looks how I would expect. (The sample really is only 5 seconds long.) The container shows as AVI, and has both video and audio parts.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, something was odd with that file, so I have removed the whole show as it’s the only show I have in AVI format (the rest are mkv). However FYI :-

  1. PLEX did not crash last night, with that file still in place. Although, I turned off the “intro detection” in two places (see my previous post), so that’s a step forward.

  2. The ‘dodgy’ file in question has been there for years and although it did not play, I had no issue with version 1.19.1.2645 (or earlier) crashing overnight.

Actions - I will put back the two “detect intro” settings, I switched off yesterday and will wait until tomorrow to see if PMS crashes overnight tonight.

Speak then, thanks all :+1:

Same happening to me, but the server can shutdown anytime of the day. I posted the log files of my experience, but have not had a response as yet. I even uninstalled and deleted all Plex files and re-installed Plex, but to no avail.
