PMS crashing on launch (macOS)

Everything was working fine. Restarted my iMac - High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G12034) - which runs the latest version of PMS and now it won’t reload. It just flashes on-screen in the menu bar and it’s gone. Immediate crash.

Current version: 1.19.3.2740-add6f438d

Also tested the current non-Plex Pass version: 1.19.2.2737-b69929dab

What in the world could be causing this? I wasn’t even performing any sort of update when I restarted the iMac, it was just refreshing the network.

I don’t even know how to enable logging if it’s crashing immediately while trying to open.

Please help. Not a good time for Plex to go down while on quarantine.

It could be due to a corrupt database. Try repairing it or restoring it from a backup:

Yep. That’s what it was. Turns out there was corruption somewhere. Following the steps included didn’t work unfortunately, so it’s currently rebuilding now.

Been using Plex since 2009 now and never had any database issues, so I’d say that’s a pretty solid run.

Thanks for the help!

Ouch, that’s a lot of history to lose. Sorry to hear that.

Just out of curiosity, do you have any older Time Machine backups which may have a good copy of your database?

I’m sure I do, if not Time Machine, I use BackBlaze as well: redundancy all the things!

Honestly I’m not too fussed. It’s just watch counts that really get messed up, and I know enough of that from memory that I’ve already sorted it out.
