PMS Crashing Upon Viewing Playback Info Windows 8.1 Pro

Server Version#: 1.15.5.994

PMS Crashing On/Off, service get’s killed & requires a restart of the service.

Debug Logs sent privately.

Per Dev, copy of database not required at this point. Creating topic for this.

It appears that just now the server crashed again, this time the service stayed operational but was refusing requests…

I know that a similar issue was reported in a previous build as well.

Thanks

That could be a deadlock leading to overload. Would like to see logs and if a deadlock then we need to get the connections list and forced dump and logs. But first need to see logs to see if it is a deadlock

With regards to the earlier crashes, I have located two crash reports - from crashes at
Apr 29, 2019 19:00:58
Apr 28, 2019 22:46:23
There is an issue with the dumps automatic analysis and I would like to get the unanalyzed dmp files and logs so i can do the analysis myself

Could you please leave debug logging enabled
Increase the number of log files to 10
(RegEdit to create NumLogFiles and set value to 10
To do that, select
KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
Right click on Plex Media Server and select New DWord (32-bit) value and name the new entry LogNumFiles and give it a value of 10
[Check first if you have LogNumFiles]

In Server settings (General / Show Advanced), temporarily disable Crash Reporting.
Restart the server
On next crash, look for a dmp file within
C:\Users\Andrew\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports\1.15.5.994-4610c6e8d\PLEX MEDIA SERVER

Copy out the dmp file and zip it and upload on dropbox or similar service and send me link by Private Message. Also get the server logs please

Hello,

I have modified the Registry & added that dword per your request. I noticed you said check first if you have LogNumFiles, are you asking if I had this in the Registry or is this a setting in the GUI?

I also disabled the Crash Reporting & restarted the server. I think you’re right about the deadlock, just looked at it again & it seems to be presenting some of the same issues I had previously.

Thanks

Hi Again,

The server crashed this time & the service physically stopped, it required me to restart the service.

I checked the Dump folder you pointed me to, a file got created however nothing was written in it. It’s 0KB with no data, I checked it.

Here are updated log files if this helps!

Hi again,

Another deadlock at 2:41PM Eastern, nothing being written to those dump files.

If you’d like more logs, I can get them for you.

Thanks

Thanks

So there was a crash at 22:39:58 on April 30 but zero length dump file. May be the crash is due to heap corruption and in such cases there would be difficulties getting a dmp created by Plex Media Server itself

Could we try the following - adding a registry edit to get windows to try and create the dump

See section headed

Crash Dumps Handled by Windows

on this article
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201455336-crash-logs-plex-media-server/

The item that is added is type Key

Restart windows after that
and we wait for next crash and see if windows creates a dmp file within %LocalAppData%\CrashDumps

Please also check the windows application event log - looking for event IDs 1000 and 1001 relating to plex

So I noticed in the Event Log there was a crash on my Graphics Card Driver. I disabled the Hardware Acceleration on the Server late last night & it went almost a full day without crashing in it’s entirety.

Unfortunately I just had a hard crash & the service needed to be restarted. Can you take a look at those dump files I provided & tell me if anything stands out.

I’m open to anything at this point, becoming a major PITA to keep restarting the service. Had to setup a monitor to alert me if it crashes lol

I found ton’s of event ID’s 1000 & 1001 regarding PMS & the PMS Transcoder.

Sent you log files privately.

Thanks for the dmp files and logs. I have a matching set for the crash on April 30 at 22:40 which I have now referred to the development team

I would like to see more examples - dmp file created by windows and associated Plex Media Server logs - so as to see if all crashes are the same
