I’ve been having a reoccurring issue lately where PMS becomes unavailable, and needs the “Plex Media Server.exe” process killed and started again. In my case I believe I’ve narrowed my issue down to a specific Xbox One user.
When he begins watching something in a transcoded quality (example 720p 2mbps) and skips forward, I see 6 to 10 “Plex Transcoder.exe” processes start and max out the CPU to 100%. This continues for several minutes until the CPU goes back to idle utilization and at which point PMS is unresponsive. All processes, including all of the “Plex Transcoder.exe” remain idle. Killing “Plex Media Server.exe” and starting it again brings PMS back.
PMS version: 1.13.9.5456
Xbox One Plex App version: 2.21.1.70
I managed to download the logs when it was using 100% CPU prior to it crashing, and an additional set of logs once restarted from the crash.
Now that I think about it my issue is likely the same. The same user I see with a last successful login before a crash uses the Xbox One app. Now, what’s the fix?
I’ve just rolled back to version 1.13.2.5154 from 5 months ago, and it’s now working perfectly (as it used to) transcoding for Xbox One clients when they fast forward or rewind. I recommend this as a temporary fix until hopefully this bug is fixed.
