PMS freezes unresponsive, multiple instances on synology server

Server Version#:DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4
Player Version#: 1.18.5.2309

having server issues since updating to 1.18 on synology NAS. streaming will work for a few hours and then PMS becomes unresponsive and requires reboot.

Resource manager shows multiple (10-20) instances of Plex Media Server, Plex Script Host etc.

any ideas?

Which Synology model?
Has DSM ever been the victim of a hard “power off” event?

What you show is rather common when DSM gets damaged
-or-
The amount of memory in the unit is way under the need and everything starts swapping.

I’m curious how many times you manually started PMS ? I have it set on a retry limit and this vastly exceeds that limit.

Hey chuck,

The DSM has had a few hard power off events either due to no response or power failure. however the issue has only occurred during the most recent PMS update. it is a synology DS216j (yes low ram). but again this is a new issue… Thanks!!

I think we first need back up all the way to the DSM level and make sure we’re not dealing with those issues.

First, Are we dealing with Hard power off ? (Hold the button until the lights turn off)
or Press the button until it starts to blink and then let it shutdown itself?

If these were Hard power-off events, (which will corrupt the RAID volume in addition to the file system), have you performed scrubbing? Yes, I know it takes a lot of time.

It isn’t safe to proceed until the system is known stable. Not only is PMS at risk but your media on it is as well.

I have same issue - PMS freezes after 10-15 minutes of play, making PLEX alost unusable now.

Same “sleeping processes”, and had no issue for a long time until the last couple updates (meta and non-beta).

No hard power offs. New(er) 1019+ server running on UPS. System has been rock solid, but now PLEX freezes (with progress bar continuing) for the last week+.

There is one thing I always need…

DEBUG LOGS ZIP ? (Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs)
(DEBUG ON, VERBOSE OFF – please always keep this way)

Thanks.

How can I PM you the logs?

PM’s Logs.

Searching forums and advice in the Windows server section I ran across the setting for:

“Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than”

I had it set for 10minutes… and thinking that MAY have been what was causing the freezing. I’ve deleted entry (set to “0” now), and testing currently. So far no freezing.
