Running DSM 6.2.4-25556, everything was stable on PMS 1.22.0.4163-d8c4875dd.
I updated to 1.22.2.4282-a97b03fad and found PMS became unstable. Before I could report it, I saw 1.22.3.4392-d7c624def was available so upgraded again, but the issue remains.
It’s not consistent; PMS could run for hours or minutes, and doesn’t seem related to if it’s being used.
DSM immediately shows that the service is stopped.
I’ve seen similar topics and tried various suggestions, but nothing’s worked. DSM doesn’t let me downgrade to 1.22.0 again.
I deleted the Logs folder and left PMS running until it stopped again, so hopefully logs are limited to just the issue.
Can anyone help? Plex is essentially unusable, as it is mostly fails while in use. It can be between 5 minutes and a couple of hours, but certainly feels more like the shorter.
How much of that is standard response?
I only ask because I don’t have a tuner for [1] and installing the latest PMS version [7] is how this started.
The logs I’ve uploaded already meet your [9] (I currently don’t get “days” in order to meet [8]).
This makes me think that there’s nothing in the logs to explain the constant crashing?
The path issues you mentioned feel like a red herring, given that none of that has changed in many years. Why would a $ break things now?
I’ll consider renaming them, but it feels like a case of trying anything just in case.
The paths you mention moving were created by Plex when we enabled automatic upload in the apps. Happy to move them, but I didn’t even know they were there.
Again, they will have been there for 5+ years.
Sure, and I appreciate the advice, it’s just it feels like fishing, which is why I asked about the generics of it.
I’ll do a full reinstall first and see. I really don’t like doing that as it screws up some of the library state and makes me recreate syncs, etc., but if there’s no other ideas it’ll have to be the first thing.
In my case, I have crash entries in /var/log/kern.log (you’ll need to copy them via ssh: while being inside my home folder, I used sudo cp -a -p /var/log logcopy/.
Full reinstall is a good idea to try, but just in case, you could also backup your current Plex folder by renaming it. Then, if the same crashes continue even when you set up a small part of your data on the fresh server, you can just go back to your old Plex data and wait for the fix.
I was given these instructions for the fresh install experiment: Random crashes on DS216+II, DSM 6.2.3, PMS 1.22.3.4392 and earlier - #9 by ChuckPa
In case I’ll have to bear crashes for a while, I’m considering to add PMS restart every N hours to the Task Scheduler, or even writing a script that frequently checks if the server stopped to start it.
Could you please elaborate? You just chose Plex in the Package Center, Uninstall, then Manual Install to install the latest package? All your Plex data was left intact?
Thank you so much, looks like it worked! I had no crashes for 5 days since reinstall, and before it crashed almost every day. Didn’t think it would be that easy to fix.
