I have all of my data on one volume within my NAS and want to move just the “Shows” library to a new volume already created.
I’ve had a look at this article:
It suggests that I copy the data rather than move it and then bring PMS up with the old content in place, edit the library to add the new folder, run a scan, then remove the old location.
Seems if I copy and not move, all of the content will show up in duplicate locations requiring a 2nd scan after removing the old location.
I guess my question is, has anyone followed these steps? Is it possible the article meant “move” not copy? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
This is the part of the process which removes the duplicates:
Remove Old Content Location
Once everything is completed and you’ve verified that things are working correctly and you can access your content, you can remove the old content location for your libraries. To do so, Edit the library and remove the old/previous folder location.
Once removed, you may need to empty your library trash in order to remove the entries where the content was stored at the old content location.
I’ve used this procedure in the past to relocate media from one drive to another and it works quite well. By copying the media and allowing it to be detected as duplicates, it is associated with the existing metadata and view stats. So, when the old media is finally removed from the old locations, those attributes remain for the media in the new location.
