PMS in second home

Hi,

I have 2 homes and both have Synology diskstations. I’m running PMS at my main residence (NAS1) but due to poor internet at my 2nd home streaming 4K videos is poor at best. Can I install PMS on the NAS at my second home (NAS2) for local streaming only?

NAS2 is a clone of NAS1.

Thank you.

Yes. You can have multiple Plex Media Servers one one account.

Ok. Once installed how do I ensure that NAS2, with very poor internet, only allows local streaming?

After installing the PMS app on your second NAS you need to complete the setup – to do that open the bundled version of Plex Web that’s installed on your server using the NAS’ local IP address while being on the same network (http://[NAS2 IP address]:32400/web). During the setup you will be asked to name the new server and link it to your Plex account. Optionally you can already create local libraries at that point. IIRC you’re also asked if the new server should be available outside your home network

Alternatively you can disable remote streaming at any time after the setup is completed in its settings:
Settings > [Server Name -> NAS2] > Remote AccessDisable Remote Access

Excellent. That’s what I was looking for!

Thank you.
