PMS Live TV Recording

Hello all…
I have Live TV enabled on my PMS. I use a Silicone Dust HDHomeRun with 4 tuners.
I have Live TV enabled, but DVR disabled for people in my Plex home. However, I noticed that when they are watching Live over the air (OTA) TV that the Plex Dashboard reads that the show is recording. See Screenshot.

Is it actually recording or just converting the OTA broadcast to a stream?
I did notice something unexpected – when two (or more) devices are watching the same OTA channel, it only counts as one tuner being in use on the HDHomeRun. I was expecting each device to use one tuner. I think that other users of these tuners have expressed that. It seems Plex (or my Qnap) is doing some sort of Multicast.

Watching live TV is technically always a recording, in order to enable Pausing of the live TV. The recorded file is just not persistent.

No, Plex never does multicast (in the true technical sense). It just can recognize that two clients are watching the same TV channel and thus can supply the data from one tuner to two clients.

Thanks for the insight.
And those particular recordings get wiped automatically?

Yes. At the latest when you press Stop. But it can also happen earlier, if the free storage space is getting too low.

Excellent. Thank you!
