Hello, I am working on setting up an OTA DVR using Plex + HDHomeRun, and I’m seeing an issue with Plex constantly taking up 2 tuners just to record 1 show, like this image below shows.
It looks like one tuner is actually being used for the recording, but the other is just idle but it shows it’s tuned to the same channel. I’m not watching the channel on the server machine or any other devices.
This is not necessarily a problem if I’m just record one show, but when I tried to record 2 shows at the same time, both of them would stop after just a few seconds or minutes, because there are no tuners available.
Also it looks like the ‘idle’ tuner was released after ~10 minutes after the recording started, but after the recording ended, the ‘working’ tuner was kept for at least another 15 minutes before it’s released.
Does anyone have any insight how this can be resolved?
Not sure if it’s really “using” the tuner or just holding a channel for the off chance that another instance of that specific channel is requested by a client. Not sure if that makes sense? What I mean is (with my set up anyway) my mother may set the DVR to record Jeopardy to watch later, but my daughter likes to watch it live, so I’ve seen my HDHR’s start the live stream (without anyone actually “tuning in”) so that if someone does tune into that channel, it doesn’t effect the DVR recording on the other tuner.
Are you actually not able to use the other tuner when the DVR is running?
There is a chance in my case that’s what’s happening, but the thing is it does not always take up 2 tuners and in this case, yes I was not able to use the other tuner. Also as I mentioned, it even held on to the tuner for more than 10 minutes AFTER the show is over. Reboot the HDHR releases the tuner but I can’t be doing that each time there is an issue.
