PMS not available with no system changes

Server Version#:1.19…
Player Version#:4.30.2

Last night, Plex Server was perfect. This morning, I can’t access PMS either on localhost/ip address or plex web/player. My OS is Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS. No updates were made to the OS or system libraries. I manually updated PMS hoping it would resolve any files having lost permissions or been randomly borked/corrupted.

Update:
Tried to login to localhost again. Error reads that server doesn’t seem to exist.

Did Ubuntu update overnight by itself?

May I have a tar.gz of the Logs directory (down in /var/lib/plexmediaserver a bit)

Auto updates is not turned on, but I will upload logs when I get the chance.

Some additional info: previous PMS v. 1.18.7.24577

This repeats throughout your logs: Unknown cert.

Do you have a certificate and did it expire?

I have know idea what certificate that could be. I’m a Lifetime Plex pass owner, so that shouldn’t be the case. I’ll have to do some digging.

From what I can tell so far, it’s the TLS/SSL Security Certificate. I think this is most likely a symptom, not a root cause. I have no server settings options when I log-in on localhost, so I can’t verify “secure connections” is off.

The unknown cert is a symptom.
Finding the root cause is the challenge.

This is closer to the root.

followed by having a PlexHome with a PIN.

When PlexHome has a PIN, you must pass that level of auth before you can see the server.

This level of auth precedes normal username/sign in.

We can take you out of the PlexHome temporarily if you wish.

What benefit will that give me? When I am signed out of Plex Web app and logged-in only on localhost, the error message says no server exists.

I tested my Smart TV DLNA ability. It sees the Plex Server, but no content. Plex, however, can’t see itself.

what you just described are multiple problems.

May I have a screenshot or two of what you see?

No content from DLNA implies No permission to read the media files and does not use Authentication.

Plex/web, on the other hand, does require authentication unless
a. Plex Home is off
b. secureConnection requirements are disabled.

I’ll get screen captures when I can. Have a toddler who has 90 min left in his day.

Totally understand. … been there myself.

Plex Media Player for android 7.30.1 is able to connect to my Server. A magical new development. All other devices, however, not so lucky. I did remove all TV and web browser devices as part of my troubleshooting before starting this thread. Devices include Roku, lg smart tv, Plex for android, and PC.

If you’ve removed the other players, you’ll need uninstall, reinstall, and relink them to the account.

I logged out of all services and logged back in to IP address for PMS.

As for my Roku devices, 1 time my server was seen as unauthorized. When I tried again, my Server is not available.

I have not tried to edit the preferences.xml file like the server lock out instructions details.

I believe, at this point, the lock out removal instructions are the best way to go.
Do this one machine at a time

Server is recognized, but timing out when trying to claim the server.

I had this problem a few months ago and did a complete reinstall. I went so far as to remove the preferences.xml and allowed it to be recreated.

I can’t remember what it took to claim the server, but I do remember having to “break” my DNS settings by trying to change my DNS and undoing that in order to get remote access.

What’s the IP address of your modem/router Gateway?

In the IP adapter settings for enp7s0, make sure the DNS and Gateway are the IP address of the modem/router . Would that be 10.0.0.1 or is that just a router which goes to another device ?

10.0.0.1 is my router. I set PMS network interface to enp7s0 instead of any. Didn’t work. Reset the setting. Didn’t work. I manually set my DNS to Google instead of my ISP for the router and Ubuntu Network Settings. Now everything is working.
