I have been adding artist-poster and artist-background images to the Artist folder of my music library but when I tell Plex Media Server to scan my library and refresh my metadata, I don’t see the Artist section show the new images on the specific artists folder I have updated.
Is your music library organised like this:
Music > Artist > Album > Tracks
If not, adding those artist photos might not work.
For any ‘sidecar’ files to get recognized, you also need to have the ‘Local Media Assets’ agent activated under
Settings - Server - Agents - Artists
(on all 3 of the music agents: Personal Media, last.fm, Premium Music)
After adding the files, ‘Refresh Metadata’ on the particular Artist.
For example, the one in question is organized as such:
Media > Music > Darude > Rush
Within the Artist folder there are three files. The album (Rush in this case), artist-poster.jpg, and artist-background.jpg.
The artist-poster and artist-background files are not appearing on the Artist section of Plex. It did before when I did it for other artists, so this is a relatively new issue. I have also recently tried with other artists as well and nothing has worked.
Every agent has ‘Local Media Assets’ activated and moved as the first place.
Go into the album,
move your mouse over one of the tracks
click on the ellipsis ... at the end
‘Get Info’
then click on ‘View XML’
In the resulting screen there will be a key guid="........"
What appears within the quotation marks?
Does it look like guid="local://63........"
or like guid="com.plexapp.agents.plexmusic://gracenote/track/249........
or like guid="com.plexapp.agents.lastfm://...........
Ah, none means either you have a library that uses the ‘Personal Media’ as its primary agent
or
it means the artist ‘Darude’ has been matched manually with the ‘Personal Media Artists’ agent.
Are you 100% certain that ‘Local Media Assets’ is active under
Settings - Server - Agents - Artists - Personal Media Artists
?
You could also try to perform a ‘Fix Match’ procedure on this particular artist.
