PMS on QNAP NAS - deleted my codecs folder - HELP

Server Version#: 1.30.0
Player Version#: multiple

i was troubleshooting a codec error i was getting for all my movies only through remote access (codec failed or cannot be found). Files would play when in my local network, but not remote. I read somewhere that deleting the codecs folder from the PMS folder would solve the issue and PMS would just redownload the codecs automatically.

Welllll, this has not been the case. I tried reinstalling the latest PMS update, no joy
i tried rescanning all my libraries, no joy
Please help. How can I force plex to download these codecs again?

Correct, so here’s what we need…

  • Make sure PMS Logs are set to debug log level only
  • Start playback of a media that req. a codec
  • Verify that codec isn’t downloaded
  • Upload a zip with the PMS Logs

And for future ref, I advice that you next time instead of deleting a folder like that, just rename it to check if it works

That is :100: fair. Thank you for the fast response. Wise words indeed. To update you, i rebooted my nas and slept on it for a day and now it works locally again.

The issue has become that remotely, it seems like it connects fine. I can see my server and my entire library, but when i go to play any movie nothing happens. Going to upload those logs today. Any words of advice in the meantime? I have port forwarding set up for the 32400 port tcp/udp from a seperate public port and a static ip for my nas. I disabled ipv6 in the router and in pms settings.

It’s really really frustrating.

Literal the theme music of the tv show plays but the actually video file won’t.

Not really, without the logs, sorry

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-11-17_23-52-30.zip (3.2 MB)
here you are. thank you dane22

First of all, you have verbose logging enabled, please disable that.

You also need to move your medias, since they are stored here:
"/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/MediaSignPlayer/CodexPackExt/share/Shared

See: Qnap faq.....read me first!

Also your naming if off here!
/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/MediaSignPlayer/CodexPackExt/share/Shared/TV/The Mighty Boosh Season 1-3/The Mighty Boosh Series 1/The Mighty Boosh - 103 - Bollo.avi

If I in above assume, that your show library is pointing towards: /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/MediaSignPlayer/CodexPackExt/share/Shared/TV
then the show it self is named:
The Mighty Boosh Season 1-3/The Mighty Boosh Series 1/The Mighty Boosh - 103 - Bollo.avi

If so, the show itself should be named as:
The Mighty Boosh (2004) {tmdb-7166}/Season 01/The Mighty Boosh - S01E03 - Bollo.avi

See: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

When above is fixed, we can start to look at Codec, but for now found:

Line 5719: Nov 17, 2022 19:18:43.319 [0x7f69dba1bb38] DEBUG - [JobRunner] Job running: FFMPEG_EXTERNAL_LIBS='/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex\ Media\ Server/Codecs/2427c16-4416-linux-x86_64/' X_PLEX_TOKEN=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx "/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Plex Media Scanner" --match --type 2 --log-file-suffix " Matcher" --item 47407

So are you saying that the directory /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex\ Media\ Server/Codecs is empty?
