Providing a solution to this thread.
When using ProtonVPN & PMS together, I cannot access the server settings, nor use metadata agents to update libraries.
Getting ProtonVPN to play nicely with Plex Media Server
- Turn off ProtonVPN, it will crash (unceremoniously) if you alter the settings while it is active
- Decide on what devices you want to access Plex with:
- Local (LAN) devices — devices on the same network as the PMS
- Remote (WAN) devices — devices not on the same network as the PMS
- Go to ProtonVPN
- LAN devices
- Go to Settings | Advanced | Split Tunneling
- Enable Split Tunneling
- Choose Exclude apps/IPs from using VPN tunnel
- For APPS, do not choose Plex, or any of its applications (this will not work); do not choose the application(s) used to access Plex either
- For IP, add
127.0.0.1
- WAN devices
- Use the LAN steps, while also allowing Relay (Insecure connections)
- OR Simply turn off ProtonVPN — unfortunately, using any other setting will cause Plex to fail, such as excluding applications from using the VPN — it just doesn’t work
- LAN devices
