ok, so it seems to be working now with the vpn turned off. I have Private Internet Access for my VPN, do you know how to make the two play nice together?

It will, JuiceWSA uses the same setup without issue on Windows. Be warned not keen on Wireguard option offered at present
what is wireguard?
I have tried it but it’s still Beta and did not work to my liking as yet, but it looks promising. Use Open VPN for now

why do you have request port forwarding checked there? can you explain that?
That for port forward with PIA servers internationally. Will messenger you why.

Random Q. So I had a friend at another house ping using their command prompt my public non vpn masked IP address and they got a reply. Is that because for plex only I have it bypass the vpn? So for all other traffic my IP shows up as my VPN masked IP address but the ping got through because i have that ip address public for plex?
The ping responded because the response comes from your router. Some routers you can block pings on the wan if you want to not respond.
