PMS is running on DSM but when I try to open it in a window on any device I get this error message. Wont play in media player on any device either as I get the yellow spinning icon. Now I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it obviously doesn’t show on media player either.

<Response code="503" title="Maintenance" status="Plex Media Server is currently running database migrations."/>
I have the permissions correct, I have uninstalled and installed again, and updated to latest version but no luck
That message appears after installing a Plex Media Server update.
It is migrating the database to a new structure. While that is happening, PMS is unavailable to stream media.
Uninstalling / re-installing delays completion, as the process has to start over each time.
The time required depends on the speed of the CPU and the size of the database.
If there is no other activity on the NAS, you can use Synology’s Resource Monitor to gauge if the migration is still running. If it is, you will see disk activity as PMS reads/writes to the disks while migrating the database.
Otherwise, try checking every 10 - 15 minutes to see if the migration is complete. You will need to reload or close/re-open the web page. It will not auto-refresh when complete.
Thanks a lot. There is disk activity with pms so I will leave it be. Though it’s been several days I have tried stopping the server and also reinstalled it a couple of times. Maybe a few days might help though I do have a DS720plus NAs but my database is quite large.
I’ll update you and thanks again it’s much appreciated
I have left the NAS alone and there is read write disk activity as suggested. However, it appears there are several large files in the plug in support folder under databases that appear to be getting bigger with no end in sight. I have included a pic below. Can you suggest a next step as I’m wondering whether to either delete all and reinstall or shift to Emby or something which is not what I really want to do.
I left it running for a few days and 2 days back I got access to PMS at last as the read write processes stopped. I gave it a good check over and there were some settings like scan regularly were checked. I chose scan only when a folder changes and managed to play a couple of movies with no issues. I did have some problems keeping remote access on. PMS created a new port forward rule on my router and it connected remotely then stopped. This repeated a few times. Then without warning PMS froze at first then I cant access it again though its running in the background. The message I get in the window now is 503 Service Unavailable. I feel like this is taking over my life haha. Am I best off starting all over again. I do have lots of photos 20K, Movies 660 and music.
Enable Settings → Library → Scan My Library Automatically
This adds some info to the log files. You can disable later if desired.
Restart Plex Media Server
In Synology Package Center, stop PMS, wait one minute, start PMS
Wait ~5 minutes for Plex Media Server to fully start
Normally this takes 2 - 3 minutes. However, it may take longer on your system, given the size of your database.
Please do not stream any media at this time.
When the scan has finished, pull the Plex server log files and upload them to the thread
Settings → Troubleshooting → Download Logs
Drag the entire ZIP file into the message window. It will insert at the cursor location.
Why do this: There is a Linux system limit on the number of folders Plex can monitor. If you’ve a large amount of media, you may be exceeding the limit. It shows up in the Plex Media Server.log files as notify errors falsely saying “no space left on device.”
The fix is straightforward and, if you’re exceeding the limit, would be needed even if you completely start over with a fresh Plex installation.
Thanks for this. I couldn’t get back into PMS so uninstalled completely and reinstalled. This time I’ve left the music and pic folders out and it seems to be running smoothly except the connection to remote devices outside my network is sporadic and intermittently shows the red sign. Shall I upload the log files? Thanks
I am facing the same problem just after installing the 1.31.0.6654-7000 update. I would think that the problem comes from this version, my database has not changed between this version and the previous one. I will wait for the next one…
I’m sorry I lost this thread. I’ve been battling flu.
I’d like to suggest both of you @ne252 and @onyx18 do the following:
Uninstall the existing package – KEEP (default) option
Install PMS 1.29.2 from Package Center (not a manual install this time)
Let 1.29.2.6364 get stabilized (wait untl 503 error goes away)
If that doesn’t happen after an hour, Ping me again.
I have a tool which will revert the database to a backup easily and we’ll start undoing this mess.
