I’m currently using a Mac Mini M1 16GB as my media server. (This issue was still happening before I transitioned to this machine. I previously had a custom build Windows 10 system that had the same remote streaming issues.)
I can stream locally with no buffering at all ever on the highest stream settings (30+mbps) but anytime the server is accessed outside of the local connection it constantly buffers. It’s odd though because all of the movie poster art and Live TV & DVR guise and images load quickly so the connection seems sufficient.
Local (server) internet connection upload speed is 30mbps, 300mbps down
I’ve tried to stream from multiple locations all measuring over 100mbps down speed and every one of them has intermittent buffering throughout the entitreity of the stream.
Under remote access, Plex tells me that my library is fully accessible outside of my network and the upload speed is set to 20mbps.
For Live TV the upload never really goes above 1mbps but still buffers.
I’ve tried to enable auto adjust quality and it still buffers from every location and I even reduced the quality of stream down to 2mbps (remotely). Still buffers.
There are only ever a few transcodes going on at a time. Looking at my network and system usage there is minimal impact on the network and machine so I know its not the machine thats the bottleneck.
Can someone take a look at the logs and help me figure out how to smooth the stream over remote? Any additional info needed I would be happy to provide.
