PMS transcoding stereo OPUS to AAC for Plex Web clients

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364
Player Version#: 4.95.2

PMS is transcoding stereo OPUS to AAC when playing back on any browser (FF, Brave, MS Edge) when those browsers have had native OPUS support for years. Video/Audio was encoded using the latest Handbrake Nightly as of writing. Testing shows it direct playing w/o issue on Plex Desktop, Android, and iOS apps.

I checked PMS debug logs and found:

MDE: Selected protocol dash; container: mp4
MDE: analyzing media item 78815
MDE: E1 - Rick and Morty - S01E01 - Pilot: Direct Play is disabled
MDE: E1 - Rick and Morty - S01E01 - Pilot: media must be transcoded in order to use the dash protocol
MDE: E1 - Rick and Morty - S01E01 - Pilot: no direct play video profile exists for http/mp4/h264
MDE: E1 - Rick and Morty - S01E01 - Pilot: no direct play video profile exists for http/mp4/h264/opus
MDE: Cannot direct stream audio stream due to codec opus when profile only allows aac
MDE: Rick and Morty - S1 E1 - Rick and Morty - S01E01 - Pilot: selected media 0 / 78815

Made no difference whether I used mp4 or mkv for it, nor whether subtitles were enabled or not. I did find another thread from a couple years ago that never got closure, but I’m not really sure if it’s related.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

AFAIK, browsers only support opus for music, not for the audio track in a video.
