PMS Windows keeps scanning in music tracks I have already merged/renamed

Hi

So having had to modify my source music media files because of difficulties of PMS understanding it and rescanning them all in mostly as I wanted and expected, I did merge some entries together (which seemed to work).

But I have noticed after the periodic scans of my libraries (every 24 hours) that those entries which I had previously merged and combined have started re-appearing in their own right again.

It mostly affects I think only compilation albums which I have put in the structure suggested on the Plex help pages and named all the artists “Various Artists”. Yet the ones that keep re-appearing when it re-scans seem to replace the “Various Artists” as the artists and replace it with the track artist

I also seem to have a few exact duplicates (which are not compilations). Exactly the same entries in terms of artists, tracks, media files being used. Right next to each other in different views. (I delete one of them but a rescan bring them back).

Please can anyone shed some light on why this might be happening and how I can stop it.

Many thanks for any help or guidance

Do not name the Artist “Various Artists”.
You must add an AlbumArtist tag (this is separate from the Artist tag) and fill this one with “Various Artists”.

Here you can see both folder structure, file names, and embedded meta tags of a typical sampler album:

Sorry Otto

I should have been clearer in my terminology

I have renamed all the album artists “various artists” and in the case of a compilation, for each track, the actual artist who recorded the song

So it is as you said it must be

Thanks and regards

Please show an example of naming, folder structure, and tags of one affected album – similar to the above.
