PMS won't name movies properly

I’m new to plex.

For some reason, PMS won’t some of my movies properly.
Instead of the title, the whole file name shows up.
Is there a quick way to fix this, or do I have to edit every single one manually?

An example:
I have Big Buck Bunny in a folder named “Big Buck Bunny”.
In that folder I have Big.Buck.Bunny.2008.BDrip.Scenerelease.mkv.

In PMS, the movie shows up as Big.Buck.Bunny.2008.BDrip.Scenerelease, and not just Big Buck Bunny.

Take a look at filebot.

The naming you are using is wrong. It should be:
Big Buck Bunny (2008).mkv.
or
Big Buck Bunny (2008) [BDrip] [Scenerelease].mkv.
if you want the crap that Plex does not use.

Also the folder and the movie should be named EXACTLY the same if you use individual folders for movies.

Lastly you should go into settings/agents and move the “Local assets” below everything else for Plex movie and for TheTVdb as there is often some crap embedded in files.

Sorry dupe post.

Just to add to what Elijah said and using your example file… If ALL your files are .mkv then you won’t need to worry about rogue metadata.

Are you sure? I know MP4 files have issues but I remember from some years ago that MKV could as well.
There may have been changes since I read that, is was early in my Plex life, but I distinctly remember that MKV could have embedded meta data that Plex could use.

Often my old and addled brain can perform memory tricks on me but, in this case, I am about as sure as I ever can be about MKVs.

Lastly it hurts nothing to move “local assets” below everything else so, even if my memory is worse than I think, moving it is just a good idea to prevent possible future problems.

Yeah actually you are correct.
What I actually meant to say is that Plex always totally ignores .mkv metadata if I recall.

I’m fairly sure I saw a post from @OttoKerner in my early Plex days. Maybe things have changed.

That said I absolutely agree the surest way is as you say dropping local media assets to the bottom.

I believe this may be incorrect. I believe if you use external subtitles, this can cause issues as the system will not pick them up. Other than that though, the statement is true.

Not true.
Subtitles will get picked up, no matter where the LMA agent is positioned, as long as it is ‘active’.

Thank you @OttoKerner. I stand corrected @Elijah_Baley.
