As in title, I cannot get Podcast sync to work correctly. There is no option to sync all unplayed, as with Movies/TV Shows, which makes it hard to customize what I’m syncing. Additionally, the behavior when selecting “X latest episodes” and “Next X episodes” does not work correctly – I thought that these options would pick the newest X episodes by date and the oldest X episodes by date, but this is not what happens. Instead, it picks a random assortment of episodes from in the middle of the date order. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to how it selects which episodes to sync, and this happens on several different podcast feeds.
@anon18523487 – also, On Deck does not work correctly with regard to Podcast-specific ordering settings. For example, if I set a Podcast to “Newest First” ordering, On Deck will not show the most recent episode of that Podcast, but instead shows some older episode.
@anon18523487 any updates on this? Podcast sync/On Deck ordering is larrgely unusable right now. I think having the option to only sync unplayed episodes would go a long way towards fixing this.
I don’t use the iOS app so I’m not sure what options there are. In Android, there is the option to “delete after playing” which would produce the same affect as only keeping unplayed. Let me get someone familiar with the iOS app in here.
Ok, thanks – appreciate you pulling in a colleague. The “delete after playing” solution you propose actually doesn’t work with the settings in their current state. For example: let’s say a podcast has four episodes, 1, 2, 3, and 4 released on October 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively. Let’s also assume I’ve listened to episode 3 which is thus marked as played, but I have not yet listened to episodes 1, 2, or 4, which are thus marked as unplayed. In sync settings, if I choose to “Keep” the “3 latest episodes,” even if I do have Delete after playing" enabled, the sync will pull down episodes 2, 3, and 4 (assuming that I have the podcast’s ordering set to “play newest first”). This is really annoying, because what a typical user would want in this scenario is for episodes 1, 2, and 4 to download via sync. Basically, we don’t want to be syncing down anything that has been marked as played (just how TV Shows sync works in iOS).
Even if all episodes in the example above (1 through 4) are marked as unplayed, if I sync the latest three (2-4) and then listen to episode 3, the iOS app does not then go and automatically download episode 1 (which would be the next most recent unplayed episode, to bring my unplayed sync total to 3). Ultimately, we really just need a way to differentiate between played and unplayed for the purposes of syncing podcasts. Hopefully this example is helpful for the iOS devs.
@anon18523487 Has anyone from the iOS team had a chance to look at this? Podcast sync is still largely unusable because of this issue.
Just moved from Android to iOS and was giving Plex a shot at becoming my new Podcast app… Unfortunately I’ve experienced the same Sync issues as the OP. Enabling Sync for a show doesn’t respect the watched flag and the settings show ‘Download: All Episodes’ which is greyed out so can’t be changed.
I’d just like to sync unwatched episode…
Next on my wish list would be video podcasts but that’s one for another thread
