Podcast playback OLDER -> NEWER

Can someone please tell me how to play podcasts from older to newer? Drives me crazy when I’m listening to a podcast, it ends, then I have to open the app to play the next newest. I listen to a lot of podcasts on the weekend and having this option is a necessity.

PS: the newest podcast UX stinks on iOS app. WAAAAAAAYYY too many clicks to show the full list of podcasts. EIGHT STEPS!!!

  1. Open app
  2. hamburger menu
  3. wait for podcasts to load 3-10 seconds
  4. tap podcasts
  5. choose podcast
  6. 3 dot menu
  7. Go to show
  8. See all

Bump…

In MY PODCASTS select the one you want to change. on the show page click the options menu. ( the three dots next to the download arrow) and select Show Settings

From what I can tell it only sorts the podcasts with oldest on top. I want to PLAYBACK podcasts from the one currently being played ends to the next NEWEST not next OLDEST.

When changing that setting. It plays that podcast in oldest to newest order. in this example I am starting with the episode at 5/13/2008

The play queue which is the order that it will play them so it will play 5/15/2008 next

This isn’t working for me. When I try it the app always plays the OLDEST episode instead of the one I chose to play.

Bueller?

what does this mean. That sounds like it has nothing to do with the setting. You click play on a specific episode and that episodes does not play?

Please read through the whole thread. Bigwheel made a suggestion on how to address the original question. His suggestion didn’t work, and prevented the selected podcast from being played.

No you didn’t. You asked this question “how to play podcasts from older to newer?” which i answered.

Then you said “then I have to open the app to play the next newest.” one can only guess “next newest” means you actually want Newest to Oldest.

So which is it? Or is it just the the next episode regardless of date is not playing “automatically” like tracks on a music album?

Be clear about what you want and I will be able to answer your questions or figure out what bug you are trying to describe. IMO the easiest way to do so is to show a screenshot of the Play queue like I did so we can all see what is supposed to play next if anything.

And as I explained your ‘fix’ didn’t work! Splitting hairs here. I am not looking to display oldest to newest. I want to playback oldest to newest. On large podcasts with over 1000 episodes the app has crashed on me when trying to scroll through to the newest, which with your ‘fix’ the user is forced to take one more frustrating step.

You really feel its a valid option to force a user to scroll through massive podcast episode lists to get to the newest just to make the playback order as they want? That’s not good UX in my opinion.

Bottom line is there needs to be a separate option to address this.

Do you want to get to the oldest or get to the newest? make up your mind.

and to be clear ON DECK hub which is on the recommended screen of the podcast library, which you can pin to your home screen if you want, shows the next episode (whether the podcast is set from new>old or old>new) so you don’t have to go searching anywhere. Just like TV show libraries it presents the next unplayed episode

Do you want to get to the oldest or get to the newest?

Neither!

I want to PLAYBACK the SAME PODCAST from the CHOSEN EPISODE (say, Monday 6/22) to the NEWEST (Friday 6/26). Currently Plex autoplays from NEWEST to OLDEST. So if I choose 6/22 episode it will autoplay the 6/19 episode. I don’t want that!. I want it to be OLDEST to NEWEST. I should have a choice to have it play the 6/23 episode after its finished playing the 6/22 episode. Step, repeat.

Your on deck option seems useless for playing the SAME PODCAST, not one chosen by your algorithms. Maybe its just not obvious enough how to use it.

If you have your podcast set to Oldest to newest. and play the 6/22 episode the next episode it will play automatically is 6/23. if you decide to manually stop after the 6/22 episode is done then the 6/23 episode will show in On Deck

BTW first sentence of my first post. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough?

And I already told you how to do that. I can’t help your decision to ignore what I told you

And as stated,

Its not working or the app will crash when having to scroll through 1000s of episodes to get to the one from 5 days ago.

Did you add the podcast to MY PODCASTS?

I can only guess you are hitting the play button on the podcast page. like I said use On Deck

How do I post a video showing you the bug? It did the same thing again…

you drag and drop a file. if it is too large ( the limit is 30MB if i recall) put it on Google Drive or something and post a link
