Point Plex on Synology NAS to Mac Photos library?

Server Version#: 1.14.0.5470

Hi,

I have PMS running on a Synology NAS. I want PMS to look at the Photos library on my Mac but I can’t see that directory when I create the library on the NAS PMS. How do I point PMS to my Mac folder?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info…that seems logical how it should work. However I’m not able to mount the remote folder. I ensured the folder on my Mac has file sharing turned on and put the path to that folder in the CIFS box but I get a message saying the credentials aren’t correct (I know I’m using the correct user name and password from my Mac). I even added the user name from Synology to my Mac (and the shared folder) with its own password but that doesn’t work either.

Any thoughts?

I needed to create a new user for sharing and used that on the Synology side to connect the remote folder on my Mac (my original user account would not allow me to check the share option). However this seems to only read the files from my Mac, not store the files on the Synology. It also hammers my Mac performance (have a 2010 iMac). I’ll need to explore a better solution to have my Mac photo library synced to the synology and accessed via Plex.

Thanks again for your help!

Yes that is what I asked and you did answer that but I didn’t realize the performance impact it would have. My photos library is ~127 gig. I know I can copy via finder but that takes a long time and I don’t want to manually have to manage what files I have on my Mac and what’s on the NAS. I read that you can creat a separate space for the photos library on the NAS and point Photos to it but that could result in corruption of the database. Additionally I really have two photos libraries since my wife has a Mac too.

Perhaps I’m over thinking this and there is an easy solution?

There are two choices:

  1. Copy the photos to the NAS
  2. Make your LAN faster.
