I stream on a FireTV Cube on my Vizio TV and videos from Live TV, NetFlex and Prime all stream in great video quality. I use my Plex DVR to record OTA TV Shows using a HDHomeRun connected via my router. All devices use ethernet connection.
When I look at the dashboard, I am direct streaming with no transcoding, low CPU usage, yet my video quality looks poor. I have my FireTV Cube Plex video quality settings set to maximum. Looks worst than 480p more of the time. There are some times when the video looks ok, but as soon as their is normal movement (fast action) the video gets a little blurry like you were watching a fast action.
Anyone able to stream Plex DVR OTA shows clearly on their TV’s? See below from my server while it is playing.
Yes, I have two FireTV Cubes. One connected to a Vizio TV 4K and another connected to a LG 4K TV. They both have the same affect where the video quality is not great. I also tried by-passing the FireTV Cube on the LG TV and played directly through the LG Plex App with a similar result.
Sounds like you might just have a bad video. Were you watching an older show? Some are just scaled up from their original broadcast quality and won’t look very good.
No, it is a new TV Series show (Prodigal Son) recorded on Fox. I will try to assess recordings from different networks. If watching the show LIVE on the OTA broadcasts on any of my TVs look very good (1080P level quality). Would I not expect my .TS file recording from Plex to look equally good for my TV show recordings? Watching Live TV through my OTA antenna cable on any of the networks looks very good either of my TVs and I don’t watch it through Plex App Live TV - not sure if that signal is coming from my OTA antenna cable or if coming through the web/internet somehow.
Is there a better way to test the final recorded TS file on another video player to prove the end file is expected quality to help troubleshoot if the source file is recording poor quality or if the file quality is very good but it is the streaming function that is creating the issue.
My W10 player does not appear to be able to play a Plex TS file.
Try playing back from something other than a Fire TV, like Plex Web or Plex for Windows, or your phone. Or try playing the file from your computer using another video player app.
Your screenshot shows it was direct playing at ~7 Mbps, which is correct for OTA recordings. Have you tried watching that same show live using the Plex app?
