Was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this. I have a Popcorn Hour A300 and downloaded the Plex app on it. I am connected and seeing my movies. The problem is whenever I select a movie that is an MP4 format - it starts to play and within 10 seconds it stops. All MKV files work with no problem. I have looked up and down on all setting (Popcorn Hour and Plex) and cannot find anything that would make this work. Has anyone seen this before.
Further note: I have Plex running on my Samsung TV and all the MP4 movies work fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
I had many Popcorn Hours for a long time (PCH-C200, A410, A500)
If your files are hosted in a shared folder (like a NAS) the only way to make it work fine is to setup a config.xml in the client settings
In this file you define how to replace the path provided by plex with the path to the shared folder
Then, when you launch video file, Plex Client read directly the file like a local file and do not use the plex stream
The client update regularly the position in the file (time read) to the server and maintain last viewed
Only missing stats for played duration and other stuff that you can’t monitor in Tautulli
You can find many config example in Popcorn hour forum
Before doing that may be you can test it by browsing to the shared folder and try to launch it
Last, I do not use anymore PCH
All have been replaced with Nvidia Shield
Far more responsive, can play everything
Thanks for the reply. Tell me more about the Nvidia Shield. My overall thing is this… my PCH plays my movies in a upconverted 4K… it looks amazing. My TV is 4K of course but I noticed if I play Netflix or even Plex through my TV alone (app on the TV), it doesnt come through with that incredible brilliance. I want to upgrade my PCH for something else but I guess I’m afraid that it wont give me that wow factor I am getting from my PCH.
So how does the Nvidia Shield measure up?
Well… Hard to say I haven’t a 4k TV and I dont play native or upconverted 4K files
So can’ tell you about the “wow factor”
My primary goal with “ugrading” to Shield was to have a device that can play everything, thant can seek quickly through the video, that have a client without bugs
I think you retrieved the old *Plex client (I dont remember the version,I think it’s 1.09 or something like that) witch have some little annoying bugs (bad counts of shows for example)
By reading the advices in this forum (and many others), Shield was the good solution and sure it is. My only expect now is to have the new UNO UI in android tv to be completely happy
