Portable Plex Playback: A Ritual of Futility

My goal is simple: Live TV playback on a Raspberry Pi that doesn’t rely on being on my local network.

PlexAmp proves your audio team understands portable clients. But on the video side, it’s a mess. There’s no Plex app for Raspberry Pi. The Kodi add-on was abandoned without replacement. PM4K fills part of the gap—but it doesn’t support Live TV.

I’ve spent hours trying to get my network tuner working on a Pi without relying on a full desktop GUI and browser. Nothing works. Kodi has its flaws, but it’s portable, flexible, and appliance-ready. If it ever nails remote access, Plex loses its only edge.

Why does your audio team support portable use cases while your video team leaves them to rot? If you’ve truly abandoned Pi support, say so. If not, where’s the roadmap?
