I’m using a raspberry pi as a travel router/portable (offline) Plex server and would really like the ability to also use it as a “streaming target” player as well. Basically I want to have something like headless Plexamp that also plays videos. It is important to me that the mobile apps can see it as a player and can fully control the playback. Is this possible currently?
I’ve tried both of the Kodi plugins. The one shows up as a streaming target but can only be play/paused. There is no ability to skip forwards or backwards.
Plexamp is perfect but only handles audio. I need video too.
The official embedded PMP is a full blown image that doesn’t allow for the server to coexist, so I haven’t even tried that.
Same thing with RASPlex. I did install that before realizing it cannot coexist with the server.
For now I’m using one of the Kodi plugins but I’m really hoping there is a better option that I’ve missed as it has been really frustrating to have to switch back and forth between the Plex app and a Kodi remote on my phone depending on the action I want to take with the player. It also completely breaks my home user setup as full control of the player via Kodi app also grants full content access breaking the home user content restrictions I have setup.
Anybody know of a way to accomplish this?
