Portrait videos play blown up and distorted to Landscape. Suggestions to fix?

I know this is an old post, but I’m struggling to find topics that directly relate to my issue.

I’m in the process of moving all my photos/media from my phone (Samsung galaxy 7 edge) and other devices onto my synology nas. I’m then using plex tv app to view the content through my Samsung Smart Tv’s ( UE49KS80001 & t32e390sx) I’m finding that all videos filmed in portrait from this phone when displayed via plex through my samsung tv’s are either being completely stretched (on UE49) or not being able to be displayed at all (t32e). On the latter, I just receive the message ‘Player could not render this content media might be corrupt or the mediatype is not supported’. Plex/ the TV’s have no issue with videos from this phone shot in landscape. Nor do they have issue playing back videos in different orientation/ aspects from older media devices (like videos shot on my old canon ixus).

Both the apps are up to date (only downloaded them a couple of days ago) and the app on the NAS is the most current version as well.

Anyone got any ideas, it’s driving me mad!

I’m experiencing the same or similar behavior with a Samsung UN55J6203 with Plex app version 2.012 and PMS 1.14.1.5488-cc260c476. I just started a Photos library so I don’t know if previous versions of Plex app or PMS behave differently. I know this is an older TV and, I believe, an older Plex app version but it would be great to have a fix. If I can provide any information, please let me know what to look for.

Thanks!
