I’ve found what I think is a bug in the way Plex handles photo libraries.
Steps to reproduce: I created a new Photo library called ‘Plants’. Its source is a top-level folder, also called Plants.
Under that will be various sub-solders, but for now just one - Chillies:
And the Plex library looking thus:
If I now go into the Chillies entry, we get this:
Note how on these subfolders the graphic tile is larger, and the title falls within it. Because of this I like to create my own tiles, with the title embedded in it in a nice font. For example:
However, the Title from the Properties is overlaying my own graphic, and looks bad. So what I do is go into the properties and remove the Title:
Here’s where the bug manifests: any further images added to that folder causes this to happen:
As you can see, the newly added image has caused a ‘phantom’ folder to be created. What I think is happening is that new entries get the folder-name instead of the Title property in their metadata.
Re-naming the folder causes the phantom entry to go away, and a new ‘correct’ one to be created. Here I rename the ‘Sketches’ folder to ‘Sketches and Art’:
and it correctly display just two sub-folders, but the Title is back and my own graphic replaced with a random entry.
I can only check the Synology server version, but the ‘phantom’ entries show on all players I’ve tried (Mac, Windows, iOS, Sony TV etc)
Edit: A quick further test shows the bug manifests if the Title is different to the folder name. It’s not just if it’s removed entirely.
