Hi guys, not sure if this is a stuff up or not but basically I tried turning on remote access for my plex server (manual IP), and everything says “Fully accessible outside your network”, I then click on advanced which shows me the public IP to connect to.
PROBLEM IS!! When I go to that IP on my computer it brings me to someone elses server? I see all the TV shows and Movies they have and I can even go to the settings and find their server name, email and sign them out.
I’m not sure if this is normal, or if I’m seeing some public random server (do they exist?) or if I’m actually seeing someone elses?
Thanks for the help guys!!
Do you live in a dormitory or is the internet connectivity supplied by your landlord?
This looks like a poorly segregated campus network with a custom rule in place for someone with a Plex server who is good friends with the owner. Or something.
Maybe the server you are seeing is one of your neighbours’?

Thats something that I never would have thought of but I don’t think so, I live in a house (owned by my parents) and as far as I know theres no one else in here *worries for a bit lol.
Maybe it has something to do that I’m using the public IP address to see it as opposed to the private one? (although the private one I’m assuming is the LAN address which obviously works and I thought the public one would be the one I can use on the internet? which brings me to someone elses server).
Cheers mate

No, this is very correct. Accessing the public IP with your port number should take you to your server.
If you reach a different PMS instead, there is something major flawed with your ISPs network. Is this a smaller ISP or a cable operator?
Try to set a different external port number.

Ohhhhh thanks mate!! your help was really useful.
I am with a major ISP here (one of the bigger one) BUT I forgot I have a VPN running constantly on my server (Torguard).
I have a feeling that the VPN may be returning the wrong PMS? I tried different port numbers and the others don’t seem to work unfortunately BUT the IP I was given does go to a legitimate server even with my own remote access disabled. Seems a bit spooky that you can obtain other peoples PMS details that way. I think I might keep mine off since I’m using the VPN (I was more curious then anything).
If it helps the VPN is set to Canada and the IP displayed also is in Canada.
Thanks again mate!!
