Possible to connect Plex Server directly to Xbox One?

Hi,

Is there any way to connect either a NAS or a custom built PC running Plex server software connected directly to the Xbox One to use Plex on Xbox One?

Or MUST the Plex server NAS or computer be connected to the internet router?

The reason I ask is because my router is far and I don't want to stream to the Xbox One via wifi. I've always had trouble streaming movies over wifi.

Appreciate any feedback/tips/advice. Thanks!

Simply put, no.

Plex is for network streaming just as a NAS is for network file storage.

Ah, okay. I asked this same question on reddit and seems some people are suggesting it is possible, but I have no idea what they are talking about. Thought I should also ask on the official forum as I don't want to waste money for something that won't work.

I'm interested in Plex on Xbox One for the metadata (right term?) to get the movie info, posters, etc. Xbox One is sold as a HTPC alternative, but quite frankly it sucks at it. You can't even manage movies on the external drive.

I am still interested in Plex as I think it's awesome at what it does, so I guess I need to look into better wifi routers or see what the issue is with my home. Whenever I streamed movies via DLNA wifi in the past to a bluray player, it cut off. My wifi is 'G', maybe upgrading to 'N' would help.

Oh and also one other question, is it possible for Plex on Xbox One to show the DVD and Bluray menus and extras if there is a way to make a copy to store on drive, or is it like everything else that can only play video files ripped from discs?

Plex doesn't support ts or iso, it is only for ripped content. This is the way nearly everything is going because with the current video codecs you can compress the movie to take up much less space and still have great quality.
