If you are interested in this, then please vote for it here: DVR - Allow Managed Users to record shows & access the Recording Schedule
I setup a system to do nothing but run Plex with the DVR/Live TV option since they announced and made the option available. Bought two HDHomerun units, installed cable cards. Idea was to have a whole house DVR that everyone could use.
Still can not get any other user to Schedule the DVR or Watch Live TV even though āPlexā says that users should be able to watch Live TVā¦
I see no progress with the DVR or Live TV.
Guess it was a waist of equipment, money and timeā¦
Shutting it down⦠Very disappointingā¦
Hi @nydave69, there have been several topics created for this. Everyone who wants this should vote for this feature request: DVR - Allow Managed Users to record shows & access the Recording Schedule
Thanks for the link⦠I added my voteā¦
But I donāt see this happening any time soon as the DEVās work on whatever the new spin is.
The main reason I subscribed to PlexPass⦠and now I have to play remote for the wife and kids when they want something recorded.
This is so wrong on so many levelsā¦
Has Plex made movement to allow this? After searching for a show (using a managed user account) a āRecordā button appears. However after clicking on it, I get the message āAn error has occurred, please try again laterā I take it Plex hasnāt worked on this? This make no sense that Iād need to give my kids (or worse my wife) access to an admin account to change all kinds of settings.
Ok, yeah, been using Plex for years and been very happy⦠Just added PVR function (getting ready to cut the cord) and this seems a bit off. Its pretty basic functionality, but does not seem to be getting any attention. Guess its time to implement a new media server. I donāt have the time to deal with unresponsive Dev teams when there are so many open source / free options out there. Plex is great if they save me time over an open source solution. Charge me more and add this feature if you want to keep me as a customer!!!
FLAG AS FIX/RESOLVEDā¦
as the admin go to family & friendsā¦select āhome usersā
select the user(s) edit icon (pencil) to make changes for that user profile
click ārestrictionsā on the left pane
select check box for āAllow access to Live TVā
Save changes
and testā¦all should be working for viewing live tv as the non-admin user.
Still not working on plexmediaserver-1.14.0.5470-9d51fdfaa.x86_64.rpm
Tried the following:
- Enabled access on exiting users with permissions to DRV dir. Toggled to that user. No Record option in WebUI or FireTV channel guide.
- Added NEW user with full permissions. No Record option in WebUI or FireTV channel guide.
- Confirm that Admin HAS record ability in BOTH WebUI and channel guide FireTV .
- Also re-installed plex from FireTV to be certain it wasnāt a caching issue.
@ckimaru See my post from July 25
Hi John, So this isnāt fixed. The request of this thread was to record, which would require viewing. Now we can see what canāt be recorded
" [Possible to give managed users access to record live TV?]
You can give users access to Live TV but not to set recordings.
Iām also sorely missing this option, having just found out that all I can do is give my managed users access to Live TV streams, and not given them the ability to record/schedule recordings.
This seems a totally irrational and illogical omission.
Come on PLEX this should be a no brainer just ADD THIS OPTION to allow other users to record also!!! Itās the whole reason I bought a tuner and antenna now itās collecting dust!!!
Please Fix this!
Another one subscriber asking for this featureā¦
I would also like this feature. I do not understand why the rest of my Home users cannot do this already.
Thank you for your consideration.
I just bought a HDHomerun 4 tuner just for Plex. No record for client is a deal beaker⦠But Ill hang in there Im sure Plex will get this addedā¦
Also got a HDHomeRun tuner and shocked to find that managed users cannot schedule recordings - Excellent āFamilyā limitation there.
Is the fix just to create a Plex account and give all users access to the admin account?
That could be a dangerous practice. All depends on the people in your family.
I certainly would never do that with my family. Itās not because they would be malicious but could inadvertently do something ābadā while using the admin account.
I also came here wanting this.
The more Plex matures, the worse it gets. Itās kind of amazing, really⦠No ability to stream live TV to users outside of the home group, which Emby does fine. No ability to record for users (serious? What the hell? This is just brain dead stupid), Emby does this fine. New interface on Roku is such garbage and unusable. Nobody tested it before forcing it on Roku users and itās total trash. Emby is also trash in that department, so⦠oh well.
As Emby matures, itās already surpassed Plex is most areas and Plex took a huge step back in the UI department. Getting less and less of a reason to keep Plex, as it lacks useful features other software has and continues to make the user experience worse and worse.
